The SCM (Sternocleidomastoid) Muscle is one of the most overlooked muscles —
until it starts causing problems you can’t ignore.
This powerful neck muscle runs from your sternum + clavicle all the way up to the mastoid bone behind your ear.
It controls neck rotation, side bending, flexion, and even helps with breathing when your body is under stress.
When the SCM gets tight or overloaded, you may feel:
• Neck stiffness
• Reduced rotation while driving or working
• Tension headaches in the forehead or behind the eyes
• Dizziness or balance issues
• Pain radiating toward jaw or upper shoulder
Because of its multiple attachment points, the SCM can easily develop trigger points, especially from:
• Poor posture
• Long screen time
• Sudden jerks
• Sleeping wrong
• Stress-related breathing patterns
