We can't have organisations that deal with therapy and counselling run unchecked. It takes everything many steps back and further stigmatises therapy.
Many women today would be feeling much safer if Zahir Jaffer was not allowed to run around with the excuse of calling himself a counsellor/therapist.
Therapy is a complicated process, it requires formal education. If therapy works wants to help people, it should adopt ethical models to do so.
It is unjust and unfair to exploit people in the name of therapy. To us, it's a crime.
You would not go to a doctor that didn't have the right certification. If someone was pretending to be a doctor and treating people, they'd probably go to jail.
Why don't we have the same standards for Therapy and counselling?
We're going to try our best to push for greater accountability and higher standards when it comes to therapy and counselling.
Sukoon will try working this week and the next to try and create a national registry of therapists and counsellors.
Nobody should feel unsafe when they reach out for help.
