Happening Today! Round-table on Human Resource for Health- Policy Implications featuring Minister for Specialised Healthcare Department, Khawaja Salman Rafique and Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, Khawaja Imran Nazir.

Pakistan faces major health workforce challenges, such as overall shortage of qualified health workers , sub-optimal and imbalanced overall production, brain-drain, inequitable geographic distribution and skill mix as well as quality, relevance and performance of health workers. . Estimating the scale of the problem is an even bigger challenge, due to absence of reliable and updated health workforce information to guide policies and plans. Punjab, representing more than half of the country’s population, has the lion’s share of the problems.

There is a critical need to take the situation of Punjab in account, and to develop and implement comprehensive health workforce policies and strategic plans to optimize health workforce availability, quality and performance in Punjab.

This and more to be discussed at the Policy Roundtable today!

“Air pollution threatens us all, but the poorest and most marginalized people bear the brunt of the burden,” says Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO). “It is unacceptable that over 3 billion people – most of them women and children – are still breathing deadly smoke every day from using polluting stoves and fuels in their homes. If we don’t take urgent action on air pollution, we will never come close to achieving sustainable development.”

Air pollution levels remain dangerously high in many parts of the world. New data from WHO shows that 9 out of 10 people breathe air containing high levels of pollutants.
