Venous Malformation on the Dorsum of Hand

This image shows a swelling over the back of the hand consistent with a Venous Malformation—a congenital vascular condition caused by abnormally formed veins.

Patients typically present with a soft, compressible swelling that may increase in size when the limb is dependent and reduce on elevation. These lesions can remain asymptomatic or may cause pain, cosmetic concerns, or functional limitation over time.

Varicose Veins – Clinical Inspection

Varicose veins are best assessed initially by careful inspection in the standing position.
Visible dilated, tortuous superficial veins—especially along the calf and thigh—suggest underlying venous reflux.

🔍 Key points assessed during inspection:
• Distribution of varicosities (GSV/SSV territory)
• Skin changes: pigmentation, eczema, lipodermatosclerosis

Visible Neck Pulsation in a Young Patient

Sometimes a visible pulsation in the neck can make people anxious and they may think it is something serious. However, not every neck pulsation comes from an artery.

In this video, the pulsation seen in the neck is from the external jugular vein. In some individuals, especially those who are thin or young, this vein can appear prominent and show visible pulsations.

Although this finding may be normal in many cases, it is always advisable to have it evaluated by a qualified doctor if there are concerns.

High-Flow Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) of the Hand

A young female patient presented with a swelling in the left palm. On clinical examination, the lesion showed visible pulsation, suggesting abnormal blood flow.

Further imaging confirmed a high-flow arteriovenous malformation (AVM). In this condition, arteries connect directly to veins without the normal capillary network, resulting in rapid blood flow through the area.

Such vascular malformations may cause swelling, pain, skin changes, or bleeding if they enlarge. Early diagnosis and evaluation by a vascular surgeon are important for proper management.

ایک نوجوان مریضہ بائیں ہاتھ کی ہتھیلی میں سوجن کے ساتھ آئی۔ معائنے کے دوران اس سوجن میں واضح دھڑکن (پلسیشن) محسوس ہوئی جو غیر معمولی خون کے بہاؤ کی طرف اشارہ کر رہی تھی۔
