🧠 World Mental Health Day — 10 October 2025
Theme: Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes & Emergencies

In times of disaster, conflict, or emergency, we often focus on physical safety — but we must remember: mental health does not pause.

When catastrophe strikes, people face loss, displacement, fear, uncertainty, and trauma. Almost everyone experiences psychological distress, and many are vulnerable to ongoing mental health conditions.
That is why access to mental health services during crises is not optional.

On this World Mental Health Day, let us raise our voices for those who suffer in silence.

💜 Because in catastrophe, HOPE, CARE, and CONNECTIONS can be the difference between surviving and rebuilding.

“Access to mental health is not a privilege, it’s a lifeline.”

Mental health support should not be seen as something extra or optional, available only to a few — it is essential for survival and recovery, especially during crises or disasters. Just like food, water, and shelter.

Access to mental health care helps people cope, heal, and rebuild their lives. It is a basic human need, not a luxury.

🌍 Su***de as a Global Burden

Su***de claims more than 700,000 lives every year worldwide, making it one of the leading causes of premature death. It affects every region, culture, and age group, with young people and vulnerable populations being at highest risk. Beyond the tragic loss of life, su***de brings deep emotional, social, and economic consequences for families, communities, and nations.

Addressing it requires breaking stigma, strengthening mental health care, and promoting hope and connectedness as a shared responsibility.

17/07/2025

Acute Stress Reaction (ASR)—also known as Acute Stress Response or shock—is the immediate psychological and physical reaction to a sudden traumatic or stressful event, typically lasting for hours to a few days.

🧠 What is Acute Stress Reaction?

ASR is a normal, short-term response to overwhelming stress, such as:

Accidents

Sudden loss

Violence

Natural disasters

COMMON SIGNS:

Disorientation or confusion

Palpitations, sweating, shakiness

Emotional numbness or detachment

Hyper-alertness or panic

Crying spells or silence

It’s your brain and body trying to protect you from psychological harm.

> “It’s okay not to feel okay after something shocking. The brain needs time to process what just happened.”

If symptoms persist beyond a few days or worsen, it may progress into Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) or PTSD, and professional help should be considered.
