*Skill, supervision, and teamwork continue to define Ward 20’s success story*

An ultrasound-guided pediatric renal biopsy was successfully performed by our Level III and Level IV trainees, under the supervision and expert guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Faisal Mahar, under the kind leadership of Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan.

This achievement reflects their dedication, mentorship, and tireless efforts in strengthening and flourishing the Pediatric Nephrology Department at Nishtar Hospital.

Together, we continue our journey toward excellence in pediatric renal care and postgraduate training.

A seminar on “The Role of Nutrition in Brain Development” was conducted as part of an academic session at Ramada Hotel Multan.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan, who presented an excellent overview of the vital role of nutrition in enhancing child brain growth and cognitive development.

It was indeed an honour to share the presentation in this academic session ,made truly memorable by the gracious presence of her respected teacher and mentor, Prof. Dr. Pervaiz Akbar Khan.

The session was well-attended by faculty members, postgraduate residents, and students, who greatly benefited from the depth of knowledge shared. Such scholarly gatherings continue to inspire and uplift the academic spirit of the Department of Pediatric Medicine.

A farewell was arranged today by The Pediatric Medicine Unit 2 to honor the dedicated House Officers as they concluded a remarkable chapter of their medical journey.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan (Head of Department), along with Dr. Muhammad Faisal Mahar (Assistant Professor), Dr Sidra Anjum SR, Dr Sana Asghar SR, Dr. Zulfiqar Chan SR,
Dr. Salman Zafar SR, Dr. Khawar (Admin Registrar), Medical Officers, and Residents.

Together, they gathered to appreciate the hard work, dedication, and valuable contributions of these young professionals. Their time in the department has been marked with learning, growth, and commitment towards patient care.

Renal Biopsy Workshop – Pediatric Medicine Unit 2

Today, a Renal Biopsy Workshop was conducted in Pediatric Medicine Unit 2, facilitated by Dr. Salman Zafar under the supervision of Professor Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan.

The workshop was attended by PGRs and Medical Officers, focusing on the principles, indications, technique, and post-procedure care of renal biopsy. It was an interactive and insightful session, enhancing participants' knowledge and hands-on expertise in nephrology procedures. The participants were highly satisfied and expressed that such workshops should be a routine.

Neonatal Resuscitation Workshop – Pediatric Medicine Unit 2
Date: 16th June

On 16th June, a Neonatal Resuscitation Workshop was successfully conducted in Pediatric Medicine Unit 2, facilitated by Dr. Ghazanfar Nadeem Ansar under the supervision of Professor Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan.

The workshop was specifically organized for House Officers, focusing on essential neonatal resuscitation skills to improve newborn outcomes. It was an interactive, hands-on learning experience that greatly enhanced the participants' practical knowledge and confidence in neonatal care.

The House Officers actively engaged throughout the session and expressed that such valuable workshops should be held regularly to further polish their clinical skills.

A heartfelt farewell ceremony was held today for the dedicated house officers of Pediatric Medicine Unit 2, marking the end of a significant chapter in their medical journey. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Head of Department Prof Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan along with Dr Muhammad Faisal Mahar (AP) , Dr Salman Zafar (SR), Dr Zulfiqar Chan (SR), Dr Khawar (Admin Registar), , Medical Officers and Residents who gathered to honor and celebrate the contributions of these promising young professionals as they embark on the next phase of their careers. We wish them good luck.

World Hygiene Day was observed with great zeal at the Department of Pediatric Medicine, Nishtar Hospital Multan, organized under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan (HOD). The event was actively participated by Dr. Faisal Mehar (Assistant Professor), all faculty members, residents, house officers, and nursing staff.

On this occasion, Dr. Muhammad Khalid delivered an insightful talk on the importance of hand hygiene, emphasizing its vital role in preventing infections, especially in vulnerable pediatric patients. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Faisal Mehar also stressed the need for regular hand washing and its significance in maintaining a safe and clean hospital environment.

Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the organizing team. She emphasized the importance of instilling good hygiene practices among healthcare workers.

Today, an engaging and informative lecture on Neonatal Examination was held in Pediatric Medicine Unit 2, conducted by Dr. Salman Zafar under the esteemed supervision of Professor Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan.

The session was attended by Postgraduate Residents (PGRs), Medical Officers, and House Officers, with a strong focus on essential neonatal examination skills.

The interactive lecture provided valuable insights greatly enhancing the participants knowledge and clinical expertise in neonatal care.

The attendees expressed high satisfaction with the session and suggested that such lectures should be conducted on a regular basis.

A Warm Farewell to Dr. Asad Shahzad– Honoring Excellence and Dedication

In a heartfelt ceremony held in Ward 20, the department came together to bid a farewell to Dr. Asad Shahzad, marking the completion of his training and celebrating his invaluable contributions. The event was honored by the presence of Respected Head of Department Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan, Dr. Sana Asghar , Dr. Salman Zafar, Medical Officers, PGRs, and House Officers, all gathered to express their appreciation and best wishes for his future endeavors.

A proud moment for our Department of Pediatric Medicine Unit 2, as Dr. Muhammad Younus Siddiqi and Dr. Muhammad Saqib Hameed have achieved success in the Intermediate Module (IMM) in MD Pediatric Medicine.
