September is the month of su***de prevention and today is su***de prevention day.
So I felt like I needed to play my part in creating awareness about it, as someone who belongs to the field of psychology and also as an individual who has spent years in making peace with her vulnerabilities.
Although I generally don't talk about mental health issues here I kinda feel that this needs to change. If I can play a role in helping someone out even if in any small way then why not.
Always remember that it's perfectly alright not to be the "strong one"; externally courageous, inwardly fearful.
It is all right to feel exhausted, stressed, upset, nervous, depressed, and so on.
As I read a quote
“vulnerability is the core of all emotions and feelings. To feel is to be vulnerable. To believe vulnerability is a weakness is to believe that feeling is a weakness."
Basically, it’s an act of courage to sit with your emotions, to feel them, and to share them with people that you can trust.
Being vulnerable is not a weakness and that is something which I have realized with time and I'm still learning.
Suicidal ideation or thoughts are a symbol of mental health problems that have not been managed. If you deal with suicidal thoughts, don't stay quiet. Do not let emotions of guilt or embarrassment stop you from speaking about them.
Professional services and help are available. You deserve care as well as assistance, no matter what. So speak about it and get guidance. This in no way makes you weak, it makes you human.
And if any of you ever has any suicidal thoughts and you feel like talking about them, without hesitation and fear of judgment you can talk to me. I am not saying this as a psychologist or a counselor or a couch. I'm just saying this as an individual who wants to help in any way possible because sometimes I know that all we need is someone to hear us out.
And if you come across this, please help those around you. Make them feel loved, cared, and heard. That's the least we can do.
