📣 DENGUE ALERT IN MULTAN — LOW PLATELET COUNTS ON THE RISE

With the recent surge of dengue cases in Multan, we are seeing a significant increase in patients reporting low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia).

👉 Not every low platelet count is ITP — many are due to dengue infection.
👉 Early testing and monitoring can prevent complications.

🔴 Common Warning Signs of Dengue

High-grade fever

Severe body aches / back pain

Headache behind the eyes

Nausea or vomiting

Red spots on skin (petechiae)

Bleeding from nose or gums

Sudden fall in platelet count

🩸 When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention

Platelets < 30,000

Persistent vomiting

Bleeding symptoms

Severe abdominal pain

Lethargy / restlessness

Difficulty breathing

❌ Avoid These Medicines

Brufen / Ibuprofen

Ponstan

Diclofenac

Aspirin
These can increase bleeding.

✔️ Safe Options

Paracetamol for fever/pain

Adequate hydration

Regular platelet monitoring

📌 Important Clarification

Platelet transfusion is NOT required in every dengue patient — only in cases with dangerous platelet drop plus bleeding or warning signs.

Alhamdulillah, I am honored and humbled to share that I have been unopposed elected as an Executive Council Member of the Pakistan Society of Hematology for the term 2025-2028.

Inshallah, this new journey will allow me to contribute towards the growth of hematology in Pakistan, and I am excited to announce that I will soon be initiating the Multan Chapter of the Pakistan Society of Hematology.
