3rd and Final Day of Down Syndrome Advocacy on Capitol Hill Representing NDSS &
As I wrap up three impactful days of advocacy on Capitol Hill, I’m honored to have represented both the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) and the Research and Advocacy Institute Gilgit-Baltistan RAIGB.
During our visit, we met with every U.S. Senator and House Representative from Texas to advocate for legislative priorities that support the Down syndrome community. We urged members of Congress and the Senate to:
1- Cosponsor the Charlotte Woodward Organ Transplant Discrimination Prevention Act (H.R. 1520 / Senate bill upon reintroduction)
2- Cosponsor the ENABLE Act (S. 627 / H.R. 1436) to make vital ABLE account provisions permanent
3- Protect Medicaid from funding cuts or harmful changes
4- Support special education through increased funding from the Department of Education
5- Include the Down syndrome community in national Alzheimer’s initiatives
5- Back public benefits reform to promote better care and greater opportunities
A heartfelt thank you to the representatives, senators, and their dedicated staff for your time, attention, and commitment to inclusion. With your support, we move one step closer to building a more inclusive and equitable future for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
Together, we can make a difference.
