Japanese Interval Walking Training (IWT) says that it is better than 10000 steps a day.
*How to do:*
1. Walking slowly for 3 minutes
2. Walking briskly for 3 minutes.
3. Repeat this cycle over ~30 minutes.
4. Includes warm-up and cool-down of ~3-5 minutes each.
