The Department of Anesthesiology, MTI-Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, successfully organized the Grand CPC on Pain Management in Hospitalized Patients (Evidence-Based Practices) on 17th September 2025 at the Mini Auditorium, KMC.

Dean of Khyber Medical College, while addressing the Grand CPC as the Chief Guest, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all the distinguished speakers and warmly welcomed Parhaizgar Sb to Khyber Teaching Hospital.

He highlighted the crucial role of physiotherapists in effective pain management. He commended the departments of both KTH and KMC for their continued efforts in organizing valuable academic activities on diverse medical topics.

Social Welfare Society, Khyber College of Dentistry successfully organized a Dental and Rehabilitation Camp in District Pir Baba, Buner, on 16th September 2025.

The camp was held under the supervision of Dr. Syed Raiq Shah (Chairman, SWS), Shahbaz Imdad (General Secretary, SWS), Faculty, House Officers, and students of KCD.

As part of this outreach dental health activity, Over 400 patients were examined with free dental checkups, awareness sessions, medicines, and oral hygiene kits provided. In addition, 30 affected families received financial assistance to help rebuild their lives who faced severe financial losses & those who had lost loved ones.

We are deeply grateful to the locals of Pir Baba for their cooperation and hospitality & made the camp a success. We also thank DC Buner, Colgate, Stanley Pharmaceutical, Federal Youth Parliament, and Bosch Pharmaceutical for their support.

Such programs reflect the vision of KCD to instill in its students a sense of responsibility & service for humanity.

As part of the academic lineup for the KMC International Research Conference (KMC-IRC) 2025, an engaging and hands-on preconference workshop titled “From Tissue to Data: Advancing Pharmacological Research with Isolated Tissue Recording Systems” was successfully conducted & Organized by the Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacology, Khyber Medical College.

In collaboration with Khyber Girls Medical College and Gomal Medical College, the event brought together budding researchers, faculty members, and staff for an immersive experience in experimental pharmacology.

● Dr. Bela Inayat – Assistant Professor, Biochemistry Department, KGMC
● Dr. Waheed Iqbal – Pharmacist, Pharmacology Department, KMC
The workshop featured dynamic sessions covering:

1️⃣ The science behind isolated tissue recording systems.

2️⃣ Preparation of Tyrode’s solution and its role in maintaining tissue viability.

3️⃣ Practical demonstrations of kymograph setup, organ bath system operation, and tissue mounting techniques.

4️⃣ Hands-on interpretation of drug effect tracings.

Dr. Nighat Aziz, Chairperson, Pharmacology Department, GMC, praised the collaborative efforts of all facilitators and organizers for delivering an enriching learning experience.

She emphasized the importance of continued academic collaboration to support faculty development and strengthen training opportunities for students and professionals.

Snapshots from our 18th August 2025, SAB session on “Inside the Match: What US Residency Programs Really Look For”

We had a successful and insightful meeting, with active participation from students of Public and Private Medical Colleges all over KPK.

The session was led by Dr. Arslan Inayat (Chairman SAB), who also delivered the talk, and co-chaired by Dr. Imran Marwat (Co-Chairman SAB).

We dove deep into the US residency match process discussing essential strategies for success, the importance of US clinical experience, and polishing professionalism, communication, and interpersonal skills.

It was a great opportunity for students to engage, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into what residency programs truly look for.

The Research and Development Cell of Khyber College of Dentistry successfully organized a two-day hands-on workshop titled “Medical Writing for CPSP-Recognized Journals” on November 29 - 30th, 2024.

The workshop was facilitated by renowned experts in the field, including Prof. Dr. Shafqat Ali Shah (KCD) and Assist. Prof. Dr. Farhad Ali (KCD), with Prof. Dr. Ahsan Mehmood Shah (KCD), Associate Prof. Dr. Basheer Rehman (KCD), Associate Prof. Dr. Iqbal Haider (KMC), and Dr. Syed Muaz Masoom Shah (KCD) serve as co-facilitators.

A total of 24 participants from diverse specialties and institutions actively engaged in the workshop, which aimed to equip attendees with the skills and knowledge essential for medical writing and publishing in CPSP-recognized journals.

The workshop commenced with reciting the Holy Quran, followed by a comprehensive program covering all critical aspects of article writing, from structuring manuscripts to navigating the submission and review process.

4. Publishing Guidelines, Ethics, and Plagiarism – Delivered by Dr. Basheer Rehman

5. Extensive Topics by Dr. Farhad Ali, including:

o Online tools and software for medical writing

o In-depth analysis of the introduction section using sample papers

o Guidelines and checklists (STROBE, PRISMA, CASP, etc.)

o JPMA reviewer forms: key considerations

o Hands-on experience: submitting articles to impact-factor journals

o Writing rebuttal letters to editors: practical insights

o Mendeley referencing software: practical session

o Use of hedging techniques and transition verbs in writing

6. Effective Use of AI Tools in Medical Writing – Delivered by Dr. Syed Muaz Masoom Shah

The workshop incorporated a pre- and post-workshop assessment to gauge participants' learning progress. A feedback form was also collected to assess the effectiveness of the workshop.

The participants expressed high levels of satisfaction, emphasizing that the sessions were informative, interactive, and skill-enhancing.
