Department of Cardiology, HMC, Peshawar cardiologyhmc.com The yearly outdoor patient turnover is around 20000. Yearly indoor patients are approx. 8000. So 35 CRTS and ICDS have been implanted.

The Cardiology Department of HMC is the largest in KPK having a capacity of 124 beds (30 beds for Interventional Cardiology, 12 beds for CCU, 34 beds for Cardiac Electrophysiology, 34 beds for Heart Failure, 14 beds for Paediatric Cardiology). More than 2000 Coronary Angiography/ Angioplasty per year, 300 Radiofrequency ablations per year and 200 pacemakers/ devices per year are being performed. Besides the regular OPD, Services like EECP, HUT test, Pacemaker/Device clinics, Sleep studies, Holter Monitoring, ETT and adult / Paeds Echocardiography are offered daily. Heart failure and cardiac rehabilitation services are supported by the cardiac care foundation. It is a centre for postgraduate training leading to FCPS Cardiology and FCPS Cardiac Electrophysiology. In 2015 the services like Primary Angioplasty, Ischemic VT Ablations and AF Ablations will be offered on regular basis. There is no match for these services in any other Public/Private sector Hospital in Pakistan. The Heart Hospice Home of HMC is the only of its type in South Asia. CARDIOLOGY: SERVICES

Department has the honour of being the first one to start CRT( Cardiac resynchronization therapy) and lCD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) implantation in Govt sectors in KPK. Single chamber, dual-chamber pacemakers implantation was also carried out. Diagnostic Electrophysiological studies and radiofrequency ablations of various arrhythmias are being done. Diagnostic catheterization with intracoronary stenting services is provided. Pacemaker clinics and INR clinics were established in the outpatient departments providing services three days a week. A temporary pacemaker implantation facility is available in the department. CARDIOLOGY: RESEARCH AND ACADEMICS

Besides this various research projects are going on in the department with Dr Zahid being the principal investigator and Dr Bakhtawar shah as in charge of the projects. The research projects are;

QT interval in blinds
QT interval in deaf
Thyroid functions in patients with congestive cardiomyopathy. Thyroid function in patients on amiodarone. SAEG in patients with inferior MI
SAEG in patients with anterior MI
AICD and electrical storms
Transeptal approach for ablation of left-sided pathways.

Well done, Team HMC!

As Chairman, Department of Cardiology, MTI–HMC, I am pleased to share that we successfully organized and conducted a remarkable International Mock Examination for FCPS Cardiology.
We were honored to host around 60 candidates from across Pakistan and Nepal, reflecting the growing academic reputation of our institution.

A total of 40 stations were displayed, covering ECG, Echocardiography, Cardiac Catheterization, and Miscellaneous clinical scenarios. Furthermore, 7 candidates were given the opportunity to appear in short cases, adding depth and realism to the examination experience.

I am grateful to the esteemed faculty from LRH, KTH, and Kuwait Teaching Hospital for their valuable participation and support.

My heartfelt appreciation goes to my wonderful team of SPRs:
