🏠 Home Activities for Body Awareness (Proprioceptive System)
These activities help children who need more or less “body pressure” or movement to feel calm and focused.
🟣 1. Hypersensitive (Too Sensitive)
Signs: Child avoids hugs, doesn’t like tight clothes, or doesn’t enjoy rough play.
Goal: Help the child slowly get used to gentle pressure and movement.
Try at Home:
Do slow yoga poses like child’s pose or butterfly.
Let your child wrap in a soft blanket (“cozy time”).
Use a small weighted toy or lap pad while sitting.
Gently rock in your arms or on a swing/hammock.
👉 Go slow. Let your child control how much pressure or movement they want.
🟠 2. Hyposensitive (Needs More Input)
Signs: Child seems floppy, clumsy, or unaware of their body.
Goal: Give strong, steady pressure to help wake up their muscles and improve awareness.
Try at Home:
Let them carry groceries, move chairs, or push a laundry basket.
Play tug-of-war with a towel or elastic band.
Try animal walks (bear crawl, crab walk, frog jumps).
Do wall push-ups or push against your hands.
Have fun rolling in a blanket (“burrito game”).
🔵 3. Proprioceptive Seekers (Craves Strong Input)
Signs: Child always jumping, crashing, bumping, or chewing things.
Goal: Give safe ways to get strong body pressure and movement.
Try at Home:
Make a safe crash zone with pillows or bean bags.
Let them carry a backpack with a few books (not too heavy).
Build a mini obstacle course with crawling, climbing, jumping.
Offer chewy snacks like carrots or chewy tubes.
Play rolling or blanket burrito games.
Encourage sports like swimming, cycling, or martial arts.
