Early detection begins with awareness!

Persistent back pain is common, but when it becomes constant, severe, or progresses over time, it may be more than routine discomfort. In some cases, chronic or unexplained back pain can be an early sign of a spinal tumor an abnormal growth within or around the spinal cord.

A spinal tumor can develop in the bones of the spine, the covering of the spinal cord, or inside the spinal cord itself. As it grows, it may press on nerves or the spinal cord, causing symptoms that shouldn’t be ignored.

Warning signs that your back pain may be signaling something serious include:
- Pain that does not improve with rest or medication
- Pain that worsens at night
- Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arms or legs
- Difficulty walking or maintaining balance
- Loss of bladder or bowel control
- Unexplained weight loss or fatigue

Early diagnosis is crucial. Identifying a spinal tumor at an early stage not only improves treatment outcomes but also protects long-term mobility and neurological health.

Awareness Saves Lives!

World AIDS Day reminds us of the importance of awareness, early diagnosis, and compassionate support for individuals living with HIV. Since HIV can remain silent for years, recognizing the need for timely testing is essential for effective treatment and long-term health.

Common signs to look out for may include persistent fever, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or frequent infections. These symptoms can often be overlooked, but they should never be ignored.

Certain individuals are at higher risk, including people with a history of unsafe injections, individuals with untreated STIs, those exposed to contaminated medical equipment, and those whose exposure history is unknown or unclear.

Early testing and starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) can greatly improve quality of life, prevent disease progression, and help individuals live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
