World Breastfeeding Week (01 - 07 August)

As a IYCF Researcher and nutrition educator, I havegained valueable insights on maternal and child health.

Let's have some insights;

World Breastfeeding Week is observed to emphasise the importance of regular breastfeeding for babies. Every year, the day starts on August 1 and concludes on August 7🤱.

The time demands of breastfeeding in those first 12 months postnatally is almost equivalent to a full-time job baby.

WHO and UNICEF recommends:

1. Early initiation of breastfeeding within 1 hour of birth.

2. Exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life.

3.Introduction of nutritionally-adequate and safe complementary (solid) foods after 6 months together with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond.

However, many infants and children do not receive optimal feeding. For example, only about 44% of infants aged 0–6 months worldwide were exclusively breastfed over the period of 2015-2020.

It's a vast topic that needs attention, education, training and support to the new momies and other lactating mother's.
Thrown off all the negativity what society thinks on breastfeeding, let's approach and assist mothers in their breastfeeding journey.

Eid ul Adha Nutrition Guidelines.

On this Meaty Eid, take healthy measures to spend this beautiful occasion with your family.

🍖 Before cooking the meat, remove as much fat as possible.

🥩 It’s best to choose sections of the muttons (such as the neck and thigh regions) that have a low-fat content compared to other parts.

🥓Grilled meat is the healthiest preparation alternative, but the size of the meat pieces should be kept small.

🥩 Consume other meats with lesser fat content, such as lean beef and chicken or even fish.

🍖 Internal organs, which contain a lot of fat and cholesterol, should be avoided.

Don’t forget the sanitary instructions during Eid Al Adha:

1. Grilling tools should be well cleaned before use.
2. Place the meat slices away from the source of the flame.
3. Do not use your hands to put, turn over or remove meat from the barbecue.

Remember to wash and sanitize your hands, and all the tools you use frequently.

Remember to prioritize self-care and stay physically active during the celebrations.
