Sciatica is a debilitating condition in which the patient experiences pain or paresthesias in the distribution of the sciatic nerve or an associated lumbosacral nerve root.
A common mistake is referring to any low back pain or radicular leg pain as sciatica.
The most common cause of sciatica is a herniated or bulging lumbar intervertebral disc.
Patient with sciatica can present with neurological symptoms such as: pain (intense pain in buttocks) numbness , muscular weakness , gait dysfunction , reflex impairment , parastheiasis or diaesthesis.
Getting relief from sciatic pain does not always require medication, surgery, or painkillers. Physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic treatment, and acupuncture have all been shown to be highly effective when it comes to reducing sciatic nerve pain.
Physiotherapy treatment helps it stretch and move freely within all the structures it passes through.
