The first step is to learn how to be happy with what you have. If you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back and food in your stomach, then you should be grateful for that. We often needlessly compare ourselves with others who are living better lives than us. But this only leads to unhappiness because we are not satisfied with what we have.

The second step is to find things that make us happy and do them more often.
