A special team from the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education (SHC&ME) Department visited Sahiwal Teaching Hospital to assess the implementation and performance of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols.
During the visit, Medical Superintendent Dr. Yadullah briefed the IPC team regarding the hospital-wide efforts taken for infection control. This included the nomination of IPC committees, formation of sub-committees, regular staff training, committee meetings, and proper documentation of attendance and meeting minutes.
As part of the visit, a focused round of the Pathology Department was conducted. The IPC team was accompanied by: Dr. Wajeeha Section Head Microbiology, Dr. Hina, Dr. Amnah. The team thoroughly inspected various sections of the Pathology Laboratory, including microbiology, sample handling areas, sterilization zones, and waste disposal systems. Special attention was given to compliance with IPC protocols, including:
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Sample transportation procedures
Biohazard waste segregation and disposal
Environmental cleanliness and disinfection practices
The IPC team expressed great satisfaction with the dramatic improvements observed in the department. They particularly appreciated the systematic implementation of IPC protocols, highlighting the positive impact on overall safety and quality of patient care.
The visit concluded with commendation for the Pathology Department team for their dedication and continued efforts in maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control.
