*What are Flat-Panel Detectors?*
Flat-panel detectors (FPDs) are digital X-ray imaging devices that convert X-ray energy into electrical signals, which are then used to produce high-quality digital images. They are widely used in medical imaging applications, such as radiography, fluoroscopy, and mammography.
*Types of Flat-Panel Detectors:*
1. *Indirect Conversion FPDs*: These detectors use a scintillator material (e.g., cesium iodide or gadolinium oxysulfide) to convert X-rays into visible light, which is then detected by a photodetector (e.g., amorphous silicon or CMOS). Examples include:
- Amorphous silicon (a-Si) FPDs
- CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) FPDs
2. *Direct Conversion FPDs*: These detectors convert X-rays directly into electrical signals using a photoconductor material (e.g., amorphous selenium). Examples include:
- Amorphous selenium (a-Se) FPDs
