"Peppermint essential oil in cosmetology and aromatherapy"

Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita L.) is one of the most commonly used natural raw materials. Both the oil and its main isolate, menthol, have distinct biological properties.
This study aimed to identify the potential of application of peppermint essential oil and menthol in cosmetic products and aromatherapy treatments. The article discussed the chemical composition of the oil, the directions and mechanisms of its action, with particular attention to its analgesic and antipruritic effects. While emphasizing the severe lack of trustworthy scientific research in this field, the therapy techniques employed by aromatherapists that can be applied when working with this oil are mentioned.
Despite its beneficial properties, the use of the oil requires caution due to the possibility of irritation and its ability to increase the absorption of toxic substances. A review of the literature confirms the high therapeutic and cosmetic value of peppermint oil, while at the same time highlighting the need to take into account its limitations and safety of use.

"Idiopathic calcification located symmetrically in the facial skin. Case study"

Calcinosis cutis is a condition characterised by a group of conditions that involve the deposition of calcium phosphate in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. The clinical picture can vary from localized papules and nodules to devastating lesions covering large areas of the body, but rarely involves facial structures such as the nose. This article described the patient with two asymptomatic, yellow-white, hard papules located bilaterally on the bridge of the nose. Although the clinical picture suggested epidermal cysts or xanthelasma, histopathological examination clearly ruled out this diagnosis. An idiopathic subcutaneous calcified nodule was diagnosed. In addition to the rarity of this variant, the symmetrical distribution of the changes made this case particularly interesting. Determining the exact subtype of calcinosis is important for careful treatment, as there is no single effective general treatment for skin calcinosis.

"Cosmetic raw materials in pre-war Polish cosmetics"

The history of cosmetics and the cosmetics industry is an intriguing area of research, highlighting both the evolution of human needs and technological advancements. Paradoxically, as in many other industries, one of the factors that most strongly accelerates development and changes its direction is periods of war.
This study aimed to analyze the cosmetic raw materials used in Polish cosmetics between 1900 and 1939, to assess the substitution practices used during wartime shortages, and to trace changes in hygiene and safety recommendations.
Poland is one of the leading cosmetics manufacturers in Europe, and industrial production in this sector has clearly evolved over the years. Although modern cosmetics differ significantly from those used in the first half of the 20th century, many of them are inspired by pre-war recipes.

"Changes in nails and skin of the feet in patients with diabetes in the context of their awareness of the disease"

Working with patients requires an understanding of the risks related to complications from diabetes. Individuals with diabetes are susceptible to certain problems related to their condition.
This article presents the results of a research study that aimed to analyse the frequency of changes in the nails and skin of patients with diabetes and to assess their awareness of the disease, its complications, and preventive behaviours. A survey was conducted among 100 adult patients with diabetes.
The main conclusion drawn from the study was that diabetes has a significant impact on the condition of the nails and skin on the feet, resulting in noticeable changes in their appearance. A great need for further education on the prevention and treatment of diabetes was identified, as the frequency of complications, including those resulting in amputations, remains high.

"The importance of diet in the prevention and treatment of vascular skin and rosacea"

Couperose skin is characterized by blood vessel hyperreactivity and a tendency to blush. It is also a significant predisposing factor for the development of rosacea.
This study aimed to investigate the impact of external and internal factors on vascular skin and rosacea, with a particular emphasis on the role of diet. Selected vitamins and active substances with proven anti-inflammatory and protective potential were also characterized.
Products rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, foods with a low glycemic index, as well as probiotics and prebiotics, play a crucial role in modulating the intestinal microbiota. Individualization of dietary recommendations, taking into account the specificity of the organism, is an essential condition for comprehensive and effective acne therapy.

"Pseudomonas aeruginosa – characteristics, occurrence, and mechanism of bacterial infection of the nail plate"

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a bacterium that causes infections primarily in people with weakened immune systems. It can lead to pneumonia, wound and urinary tract infections, and its presence on the nail plate is sometimes visible as a greenishblue discoloration.
The article aimed to present the current state of knowledge based on literature from 2004-2024 on nail infections caused by P. aeruginosa, with particular emphasis on factors favouring colonisation, risks associated with cosmetic procedures, diagnostic difficulties, and therapeutic challenges resulting from bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
Procedural hygiene, proper surface disinfection, and sterilization of reusable instruments are the only effective methods of preventing and eliminating infections. Ensuring the safety of procedures is a necessity in the context of protecting the health of clients and those performing nail procedures.
