January can be a tough month for our diabetic patients. Deductibles start over, insurance may be new, drug formularies change every year, etc, etc. We share the frustration with you. 😩. Most Endos (and their staff) spend an average of an hour or more a day just trying to figure out what medication or device will be covered, what needs a prior authorization, what will be covered but too expensive or simply what will never be covered. While we try our best to help figure this out, we want you to understand your insurance. 📌Spend a couple of hours reviewing what plan you signed up for. 📌Figure out how to get to your insurance’s drug formulary. (Most of this is now online through your insurance login). 📌Consider bringing in a copy of the formulary for diabetic drugs so that we can more easily choose the preferred medication. 📌Schedule your follow up before your refill is due so that any changes can be discussed in person. 📌Be patient with your Endo. Our patients have hundreds of various insurance plans and we have no way of knowing what yours will cover. This is work we are having to take care of after we are done seeing patients, finishing notes, reviewing labs, etc. We don’t get paid for this time but we do it so that our patients can get the treatment they need. 📌Do your part by understanding your insurance and being proactive about the details. .illuris.pantry
