We should never forget those who left such a huge mark on humanity. Suhaila Nasir is one such person, and Zeena and I wish to express our condolences to her family, especially her daughters Mona and Tania Nasir. Suhaila directly touched the lives of thousands of Palestinian children, not only by caring for them herself in her home but also by reaching out to me in 1992 to save PCRF when I had just started it and had no support. More than anyone else, Sue helped to save PCRF and to guide and build the organization in our critical years of getting started. She was kind, strong, and a respected woman in her community. May God rest her soul.

Our deepest condolences to the Nasir family, Suhaila, Tania, and Mona, for the passing of our beloved co-founder and a man I looked up to as a father, Dr. Musa Nasir. For those who don't know his legacy, our founder Steve Sosebee wrote him and Suhaila an urgent appeal in 1992, when PCRF was falling apart before it even began, asking for help with an injured boy from Gaza whom I brought to LA. The Nasirs were the only ones who responded to dozens of desperate pleas for help and did more than support Nizar. They helped to get PCRF started and, for that, deserve the respect of all humanitarians and Palestinians worldwide. Dr. Nasir served as our board chairman during the critical years of getting started and supported my vision to build one of the most influential and impactful organizations serving Palestine. Dr. Musa's spirit of humanity continues in Tania, his trusted daughter, who carries his legacy forward in service to the children of Palestine today.

Pediatric Hospital, Home to the Dr. Musa and Suhaila Nasir Pediatric Cancer Department, Suffers Bombing in Gaza

On November 5, the Israeli military carried out an airstrike, causing significant damage to Rantisi Specialized Pediatric Hospital, located in Gaza City.

Of particular concern is our Dr. Musa and Suhaila Nasir Pediatric Cancer Department, situated on the 3rd floor of the Hospital, which we opened in 2019 to provide the hundreds of children with cancer in the Gaza Strip access to high-quality treatment within Gaza. Our department has been a beacon of hope for these children and their families afflicted by childhood cancer but regrettably has been damaged as a direct consequence of the airstrike.

Although there are still unconfirmed reports of casualties both in the department and hospital, we are thankful for the safety of our head social worker, who has been working there since Oct. 7 to ensure continued of our essential humanitarian services for the children and their families there, including the provision of food, water, and medicine. At this time, we are unable to confirm the exact number of injuries and fatalities resulting from this tragic incident. We are diligently working to gather accurate information and will provide updates as they become available.

Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) reiterates its urgent call for an immediate ceasefire. This is essential to enable the unimpeded delivery of vital humanitarian aid into Gaza, including urgently needed fuel supplies.

مستشفى الأطفال الذي يضم قسم د. موسى وسهيلة ناصر لعلاج سرطان الأطفال يتعرض للقصف في غزة

في 5 نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني، شن الجيش الإسرائيلي غارة جوية، مما أدى إلى إلحاق أضرار جسيمة بمستشفى الرنتيسي التخصصي للأطفال، الواقع في مدينة غزة.

ومما يثير القلق بشكل خاص قسم د. موسى وسهيلة ناصر لسرطان الأطفال، والذي يقع في الطابق الثالث من المستشفى، والذي افتتحته جمعية إغاثة أطفال فلسطين في عام 2019 لتزويد مئات الأطفال المصابين بالسرطان في قطاع غزة بإمكانية الوصول إلى علاج عالي الجودة داخل غزة. لقد كان قسمنا بمثابة منارة أمل لهؤلاء الأطفال المصابين بالسرطان وأسرهم، ولكن للأسف تعرض لأضرار كنتيجة مباشرة للغارة الجوية.

During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we're proud to shine a spotlight on PCRF's vital work in Gaza. This week, our cancer department's social workers, as part of our child-life services, distributed food vouchers to 100 families with children battling cancer. We understand that the journey to recovery can be challenging not just medically but also on a day-to-day basis, and we stand together to ensure these young heroes never face food insecurity during their courageous fight. The Dr. Musa and Suhaila Nasir Pediatric Cancer Department, founded by PCRF in 2019, continues to be a beacon of hope for these resilient kids. As part of the services provided to children within the Dr. Musa and Suhaila Nasir Pediatric Cancer Department in Gaza, we offer psychological support sessions conducted by a specialized team from the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) who are consistently present within the department.

Our goal through these sessions is to alleviate the burdens on the young heroes receiving challenging chemotherapy protocols in the department, such as 8-year-old champion Mohammed from Gaza, who is fighting leukemia.

ضمن الخدمات التي يتلقاها الأطفال داخل قسم د. موسى وسهيلة ناصر لعلاج سرطان الاطفال في قطاع غزة، هي جلسات الدعم النفسي التي يقدمها فريق جمعية إغاثة أطفال فلسطين المتخصص والمتواجد باستمرار داخل القسم.
نهدف من خلال تلك الجلسات للتخفيف على الأطفال الأبطال الذين يتلقون بروتوكلات العلاج الكيماوي الصعبة في القسم، مثل البطل محمد البالغ من العمر 8 سنوات من مدينة غزة، والذي يعاني من اللوكيميا.

During the challenging period of receiving intensive chemotherapy protocols for children, these compassionate dental professionals have been on the front lines, tirelessly improving the dental health of our children. They understand the profound impact that chemotherapy can have on dental health, and they've stepped up to ensure that our children receive the best care.

نود أن نعبر اليوم عن امتناننا العميق لأطباء الأسنان المتطوعين الرائعين لدينا في قسم د. موسى وسهيلة ناصر لعلاج سرطان الأطفال، لأن تفانيهم وجهدهم الجاد يحدث فارقًا ملحوظًا في حياة الأطفال الذين يكافحون السرطان لدينا.

Meet Yamen, a courageous 12-year-old from Beit Hanoun in North Gaza, who battles severe hemophilia A with unwavering strength. Afflicted by Factor VIII deficiency, he faces spontaneous and painful bleeds in his right knee joint. These bleeds lead to prolonged hospital stays, as the Dr. Musa and Suhail Nasir Pediatric Cancer Department team, and the physiotherapist Nasser Al Sharif, works tirelessly to alleviate Yamen's post-bleeding challenges. Nasser's guidance empowers Yamen and his family with crucial knowledge, teaching them to apply cold compresses to reduce pain and swelling during bleeds, and engage in therapeutic exercises that aid joint recovery and muscle strength. Together, they aim to minimize hospitalization duration and prevent long-term mobility issues. Yamen's resilience shines through as he learns to walk his path of healing.

تعرّفوا على يامن، الشجاع البالغ من العمر 12 عامًا، من بيت حانون في شمال غزة، الذي يواجه مرض نزيف الدم الشديد بقوة لا تلين. يُعاني يامن من نقص العامل الثامن، ما يتسبب في نزف فجائي ومؤلم في مفصل ركبته اليمنى. تلك النزف تؤدي إلى إطالة مدة إقامته في المستشفى، حيث يعمل فريق قسم د. موسى وسهيلة ناصر لعلاج سرطان الاطفال، وأخصائي العلاج الطبيعي ناصر الشريف بلا كلل على تخفيف مشكلات يامن بعد النزف. إرشادات ناصر تمكّن يامن وعائلته بالمعرفة الضرورية، حيث يُعلمهم استخدام الضغط البارد لتقليل الألم والورم أثناء فترات النزف، وأيضًا ممارسة التمارين العلاجية التي تساعد على استعادة المفصل وقوة العضلات. يهدفون معًا إلى تقليل مدة الإقامة في المستشفى ومنع المشاكل الحركية على المدى البعيد. إصرار يامن يتجلى وهو يتعلم السير على طريق الشفاء.

This week, the PCRF distributed a project aimed at providing school uniforms and comprehensive stationery kits for children currently undergoing treatment at the Dr. Musa and Suhaila Nasser Pediatric Cancer Department. As the new school year approaches, these children are preparing to return to their classrooms. The distributed supplies, including uniforms and stationery, will not only equip them for their educational journey but also ease the financial burden on their families in the challenging economic conditions of Gaza.

في هذا الأسبوع، قامت جمعية إغاثة أطفال فلسطين بتنفيذ مشروع لتوزيع كسوة المدارس وحقائب مدرسية متكاملة للأطفال الذين يتلقون العلاج في قسم د. موسى وسهيلة ناصر لعلاج سرطان الأطفال.مع اقتراب بداية العام الدراسي الجديد، يستعد هؤلاء الأطفال للعودة إلى فصولهم. تلك المستلزمات التي تم توزيعها، بما في ذلك الكسوة المدرسية والقرطاسية، لن تجهزهم فقط لرحلتهم التعليمية ولكنها ستخفف أيضًا عبء التكاليف المالية عن عائلاتهم في ظل الظروف الاقتصادية الصعبة التي يعيشونها في قطاع غزة.
