🔵 Imaging studies can be crucial in treating patients with seizures. 💥 Patients with new onset seizure, should undergo MRI of the brain to look for any pathology that might be contributing to the seizure. ✨ ✨ ✨

A 28-year-old female who presented with a few months history of headaches, occurring intermittently and progressively getting worse. She described the headaches as throbbing pulsating, associated with phonophobia and nausea at times. Headaches are worse during the menstrual cycle. Last headache persisted for the last two weeks.

Examination is normal.

MRI of the brain shown

The patient was diagnosed with migraine headaches and the MRI findings were incidental and did not alter the diagnosis. The patient came back a few days later with vertigo and was diagnosed with benign position vertigo and again MRI findings again didn’t alter the diagnosis.

Imaging studies were not indicated in this patient when she was seen by us, as her examination is normal and symptoms were most consistent with migraine headache. However, a primary care doctor ordered a CAT scan of the head, which showed the cyst and then referred her to us. MRI was ordered to confirm the arachnoid cyst.
