Red Dot for high quality design
Q-Flow won the second prestige Award
The jury has reached its decision: Merivaara Q-Flow™ has received the distinction “Red Dot” from the expert committee for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017. Q-Flow fights against infection risks
Hospital associated infections are a global problem. For example, in one year in the United States such infections have been estimated to cause nearly 100 000 deaths. The surgical light Q-Flow™ was designed to fight this issue.
Q-Flow is optimized for operating theatre air flow
The shape of the light is optimised for an operating room’s air ventilation and to minimise air flow turbulence. This decreases unwanted particles in the sterile area and reduces the infection risk.
Outstanding innovations for better working environment
In addition, Q-Flow™ has several patent pending innovations to improve working conditions, such as with Intuitive Sterile Surgeon Control (Intueri™) the surgeon can adjust brightness and light diameter in a sterile and ergonomic way. With Dynamic Obstacle Compensation (DOC™) illumination automatically adapts to shadows in the light field.
The outstanding colour rendering properties give surgeons excellent definition of tissues and blood vessels and accurate skin colour. The green ambilite enables better visibility in dark rooms during endoscopic procedures while the 4K camera technology enables a more realistic and clear picture. Q-Flow™ reinforces Merivaara’s operating room concept, the heart of which is the easy-to-adapt intuitive user interface.
Merivaara on top of the world
Jyrki Nieminen, Director of R&D at Merivaara: “Winning such a large, international award as Red Dot is a great honour for everyone at Merivaara. We have every reason to be proud of this recognition and how the design of the Q-Flow™ helps both patient safety and the work environment in operating theatres.”
Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award: “The Red Dot winners are pursuing the right design strategy. They have recognised that good design and economic success go hand in hand. The award by the critical Red Dot jury documents their high design quality and is indicative of their successful design policy.”
