Supercomputer Builds Most Detailed Mouse Cortex Simulation
A massive new brain simulation powered by one of the world’s fastest supercomputers recreates an entire mouse cortex with nearly ten million neurons and billions of synapses.
This biophysically realistic model lets scientists test how diseases spread, how brain waves guide focus, or how seizures evolve — all in a virtual environment.
Built using data from the Allen Institute and run on the supercomputer Fugaku, the project marks a major leap toward whole-brain simulations.
Researchers say the achievement shows that full-scale, biologically detailed models of entire brains — even human ones — are now within reach.
