Last week 3B's Research Group, represented by Dr. Ricardo Pires and Prof. Rui L. Reis, hosted SECRET Annual Symposium, Workshop & Mid Term Review Meeting!
Under the scope of the foreseen activities of this Marie Curie Doctoral Network project, it was a great opportunity to gather all DN students already recruited through the project and collectively discuss the project status, developments and next steps, with the precious help and supervision of European Commission Project Officer and under the guidance of the project Coordinator, Dr. Ornella Parolini from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC), Italy.
Special thanks to Innovation Acta Srl (INN-ACTA) for the help with all the logistics and organization of the meeting.

Project "Biofunctionalized spider silk for regenerative medicine" highlighted by SAS UMinho in a interview to Albina Franco from 3B's Research Group.

Inspired by the silk produced by spiders, research developed seeks to transform this natural material into an advanced biomedical platform capable of interacting with the body and promoting tissue regeneration. At 3B’s Research Group, research focuses on the biofunctionalization of silk, combining biotechnology and materials engineering to create solutions with applications in regenerative medicine. In an interview, researcher Albina Franco explains the potential of this approach and the main challenges associated with its development.

👩‍🏫 ABOUT BRINGING SCHOOL TO THE LABS🧑‍🔬

3B's Research Group received several students from first grade of EB1 da Charneca, EB1 de Agrolongo, EB1 do Pinheiral, EB1 de Igreja, EB1 de Vieite, EB1 de Longos, all from Agrupamento de Escolas das Taipas, to experience some hands on science!

We had the chance, during 3 days with different students, not only to show them the facilities and all the specific labs and generally get to know what we do, but also to allow them to experience what it is to be a researcher in the lab and perform some experiments and simple step scientific procedures and preparations, adapted to their age.
Thank you for your visit and interest and hope to see some of you in the long future!
Thank you also to all the researchers and MT staff (especially Ana Guerra, Luisa Rodrigues, Diana Costa, Elsa Ribeiro, among several other senior researchers), involved in preparing these science sessions for students!

📣Today is a special day for I3Bs! We are proud to share that our Vice-President and Principal Researcher of 3B's Research Group has received the Scientific Merit Award 2026 ("Prémio de Mérito Científico 2026") from the University of Minho on the scope of its 52nd Anniversary celebration.

This is a truly important recognition from his pears and Institution and we could not be more proud of this achievement!

3B's Research Group received several students from secondary grade (12º) of Escola Francisco de Holanda, Guimarães, to experience some hands on science, supervised by some of our senior researchers!
We had the chance, in two different days with different students, not only to show them the facilities and all the specific labs and generally get to know what we do, but also to allow them to experience what it is to be a researcher in the lab and perform some experiments and simple step scientific procedures and preparations.
