Bicarb 🆚 Super shoes 🤺
Sometimes talking about performance benefits in % can feel pretty abstract…
So we compared bicarb to carbon racing shoes for a fun little benefit-cost comparison 💰
When the Nike Vaporfly 4% first burst onto the scene, the marketing was spot on. But in reality, most carbon shoes have been shown to deliver around 2–3% improvement.
That’s actually pretty comparable to bicarb 🥣
⏫ 2.7% improvement for events up to ~5km
⏫ 1.4% for longer efforts
So… how does the value for money compare?
With bicarb, it’s simple:
🥣 One portion of BICARRB = £5 per race
With shoes:
👟 £250 per pair (ISH!)
👟 100–200 km of racing KMs before they drop off! That’s roughly 20–40 5km races per pair
We ran the numbers for fun…
Cost per 1% performance gain:
BICARRB: ~£1.85 per 1% (based on 2.7%)
Super shoes: ~£2.08–£6.25 per 1%
👉 Even under generous assumptions for shoes, BICARRB comes out as better value per % gained
Super shoes changed the game. But if you’re thinking about performance per pound, call on BICARRB 🥣
