KAICIID The International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) The Centre also combats all forms of discrimination based on culture, religion or belief.

KAICIID is an intergovernmental organization whose mandate is to promote the use of dialogue globally to prevent and resolve conflict, to enhance understanding and cooperation. KAICIID’s mandate is to foster dialogue among people of different religions and cultures to build bridges and instil mutual respect. Intercultural and interreligious dialogue helps build communities’ resistance against prejudice, strengthens social cohesion, supports conflict prevention, and can serve to preserve peace. As an international organization, KAICIID supports the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in particular the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. We implement programmes to overcome stereotypes in a long-term process that leads to a culture of dialogue that enables greater understanding of people of other cultures and followers of other religions.

Institutions mature when they honour their roots and carry their founding values forward with humility and gratitude.

At the 10th Anniversary of the KAICIID International Fellows Programme, the presence and reflections of former and current leadership offered a powerful reminder of this truth. Their words and their return to KAICIID at this milestone reaffirmed the importance of:

• Remembering where we began
• Acknowledging those who guided us
• Celebrating the vision that continues to shape our mission

The reflections shared by Amb. António Ribeiro de Almeida, Rev. Laurent Basanese, and H.E. Faisal Bin Muaammar, along with the wisdom of former Governing Board members Dr. Mohammed Sammak and Chief Rabbi David Rosen, underscored the enduring commitment that built this Programme and continues to sustain it.

Today in Rome, the "Religion and Diplomacy Roundtable" takes place asking an important question: Why does religion matter for diplomacy?

Because religious communities:
✨ bring trusted voices rooted in local realities
✨ carry moral and ethical traditions that support reconciliation
✨ help rebuild relationships where institutional trust has weakened
✨ inspire hope, healing, and solidarity across divides

At a time of rising polarisation and global uncertainty, religion can help diplomacy move beyond negotiation — toward relationship-building, mutual understanding, and a renewed commitment to human dignity.

Today, leaders from diverse faiths, governments, and international organisations gather to explore these pathways together.

🕊️ Follow us for updates throughout the day.

KAICIID participated in the 11th UNAOC Global Forum in Riyadh, marking 20 years of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.

The Acting Secretary General and members of KAICIID’s Board of Directors took part in Plenary Session 2, highlighting the role of interreligious and intercultural dialogue in advancing peace and mutual respect.

The Acting Secretary General also delivered a statement at the High-Level Meeting of the UNAOC Group of Friends, reaffirming KAICIID’s partnership with UNAOC and its commitment to multistakeholder cooperation.

As stated by the Acting Secretary General: “Diplomacy alone cannot reach every community. Religion alone cannot navigate every geopolitical challenge. But together, they have the power to transform division into cooperation.”
Hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Forum brought together leaders and partners working across cultures, faiths, and regions.

🌿 1 day to the Roundtable

As we approach our gathering in Rome, we begin with a timeless question: What is peace?

The quiet after conflict? The calm after anger? Or something deeper — a commitment to dignity, justice, equity, and the inherent worth of every human being?

Peace is not only the absence of conflict, it is the presence of care, fairness, and the courage to recognise our shared humanity.

On 18 December, religious leaders, diplomats, and experts will reflect on how dialogue can help make this vision tangible.

🕊️ Peace begins where we dare to listen and walk together.

🎓 Celebrating Dialogue in Action

On Sunday, 14 December, KAICIID marked the virtual graduation ceremony of two learning cohorts advancing faith-based engagement for sustainable development.

✨ 73 educators from Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe completed the moderated e-learning course “Engaging Faith Actors to Support the Implementation Process of the SDGs.”
✨ 18 young professionals from Kenya graduated from the course “Faith and Sustainable Lifestyles.”

The ceremony featured reflections from Harriet Atieno Ahalo, KAICIID Fellow and Founder of ReRise, who underscored the critical role educators play in peacebuilding:

“Educators have the role of emphasizing respect and dialogue, sharing values and ethics from various faith traditions, and confronting prejudices and stereotypes. They can make classrooms spaces for peacebuilding by upholding respect and dialogue, promoting the SDGs, and helping to create peaceful and cohesive societies for both learners and communities.”

The session also included remarks from Oscar Simento, Director of the Kenya Forest Office.

We congratulate all graduates for their commitment to dialogue, sustainability, and community-driven change.

Art. Dialogue. Connection: From Yogyakarta to Bangkok and beyond, KAICIID’s Dialogue Cities initiative is strengthening intercultural dialogue between cities across Southeast Asia.

Ruang Riung, a creative platform led by three Indonesian KAICIID Fellows, showcases how art, interfaith collaboration, and youth engagement can bridge differences between Indonesia’s Muslim majority and Buddhist communities across Southeast Asia.

Through an art exhibition, historical site visits, and public talk shows in Yogyakarta and Jakarta, Ruang Riung created an open space for reflection on coexistence and shared values. The initiative brought together speakers from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia, received nearly 300 artworks, engaged 100+ religious leaders, welcomed 2,600+ visitors, and reached over 750,000 people online.

By connecting local voices to regional conversations, Ruang Riung demonstrates the transformative power of culture-based dialogue- and strengthens the growing network of Dialogue Cities committed to peace, inclusion, and intercultural understanding.

KAICIID strongly condemns the violent attack against members of the Jewish community in Sydney.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the wider Jewish community. At a time of rising antisemitism globally, we reaffirm our commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and solidarity across all faiths and cultures. Violence and hatred have no place in our societies.

Peace and rights activist Magda Zenon, a member of the ICAN WASL network, speaks about gender based violence as a structural cost to , not only a personal tragedy.

She stresses that its impact is long term, shaping health, work, families, and entire . She also challenges the idea that violence affects only the vulnerable. For her, gender based violence cuts across every class and every status, with consequences no society can afford to ignore.

For her, a world free of gender based violence is one where move from commitment to action.

The 16 Days conclude, but the work of and acting continues.

Yesterday, we were proud to officially open the Global Gathering of the 10-Year Anniversary of the KAICIID Fellows Programme.

It is a special moment for KAICIID to reflect with its dialogue practitioners, partners and friends that joined this celebratory event on a decade of global impact, transformation, and shared commitment to dialogue.

The opening ceremony set the tone for two powerful days of connection, celebration, and visioning the next decade. We are especially grateful to be joined by those who guided KAICIID in its early years, whose vision and dedication laid the foundations for this Programme, now flourishing after a decade of impact, including the former Secretary General, H.E. Faisal Bin Muaammar, KAICIID Board Members, former colleagues and Fellows.

“If the past ten years have shown us anything, it is that when people choose dialogue, they create change that is real, lasting, and contagious.”– H.E. Amb. António de Almeida Ribeiro, Acting Secretary General, KAICIID

With over 550 Fellows in 104 countries, the Programme has become a global movement for peace across religions, cultures, and communities.

We opened Day 2 with the preview of KAICIID’s 10-Year Anniversary short film which showcased a visual journey into the lives, struggles, and triumphs of Fellows from around the world over the last decade.

The panel that followed brought the message to life:
Real transformation begins when dialogue moves beyond ideas and touches the lived experiences, stories, and hearts of people.
