🤝 Strengthening cooperation across Europe

This week, our Reitox national focal points met in Lisbon to discuss how we can work together to tackle emerging drug-related challenges.

A key highlight were discussions around the Reitox Alliance, a new partnership framework that will enhance collaboration, build capacity and ensure a coordinated European response.

This was also the last Reitox meeting under our current Executive Director, Alexis Goosdeel, whose mandate ends on 31 December. We thank him for his leadership and commitment to strengthening cooperation across Europe.

🚨 New service launch: ETAS is here!

We’re proud to announce the launch of the EUDA Health and Security Threat Assessment System (ETAS) — a game-changer in Europe’s response to drug-related threats.

ETAS strengthens Europe’s preparedness by delivering structured, evidence-based assessments to help Member States identify, assess and respond to serious and emerging drug-related health and security threats.

From highly potent synthetic opioids to crack co***ne trends, ETAS turns data into concrete action, supporting timely decisions and coordinated responses at both national and EU level.

This new system works hand-in-hand with the European Drug Alert System (EDAS) and the EU Early Warning System, creating a powerful network for early detection and rapid response.

📈 Turning data into stories!

This week, we organised a data visualisation training for our national focal points. The activity was led by Xaquín Veira González — an award-winning expert who has worked with The New York Times, National Geographic, and The Guardian.

Representatives from 17 countries took part in hands-on sessions exploring how to make complex drug-related data clear, impactful, and human. From design principles to storytelling techniques, the training focused on visuals that inform and inspire.

🚨 One in three women in Europe has experienced gender-based violence – at home, at work, in public or online.

On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, EU Justice and Home Affairs Agencies stand with all women and girls and reaffirm that everyone deserves to live free from violence and fear.

Gender-based violence is a human rights violation rooted in gender inequalities. It must be addressed through a multisectoral and multidisciplinary approach.

This means:
🟠 Recognising gender-based violence as a human rights violation and tackling it with coordinated action.
🟠 Building more gender-equal societies.
🟠 Investing in prevention.
🟠 Protecting and empowering victims.
🟠 Working with perpetrators to change harmful norms and behaviours.
🟠 Implementing trauma-informed approaches.

There is a close interlink between gender-based violence and substance use. However, more evidence is needed to fully understand this link. This is why we will invest in research and action on this issue in the coming period.

⚽ Sport brings people together and we are proud to be part of that story!

The EU Agencies Football Tournament is more than a game. It is a celebration of teamwork, wellbeing and diversity. This year the tournament received a special mention during the EUAN Diversity and Inclusion Awards for promoting integration, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among people from different backgrounds, genders and religions.
