There is a new Clinical Case available on the Pedro Cruz Clinic App. This week's case: Non-surgical Treatment of a Furcal Perforation of the Tooth 46

Clinical Case #5 - Non-surgical Treatment of a Furcal Perforation of the Tooth 46

Female patient, Caucasian, 46 years of age, good oral hygiene, non-smoker.
Attended an appointment on October 2008 for the treatment of a chronic apical abscess associated to the mesial root of the tooth 46.

On that same month, a non-surgical endodontic retreatment of the mesial root was initiated on the aforementioned tooth where a perforation was detected in the furca between the orifices of the mesial buccal (MB) and mesial lingual (ML) root canals.

The perforation was then treated with MTA and the retreatment of the MB and ML canals was posteriorly concluded. Because of the risk of vertical root fracture it was decided not to retreat the distal root.

Approximately 7 years later, the tooth is asymptomatic, with no sinus tract, and the lesion appears to remain healed.
