MY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I’m a Certified Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapist (member of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses number 12094) and hold a BA degree in Psychology - with pre-specialization in Cognitive, cognitive-behavioural and systemic interventions by the Psychology College of Lisbon University. I hold a Post-graduate degree as a Cognitive-Behavioural and Integrative Psychotherapist, by the Portuguese Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapies - APTCC (associate number 515) and a Post-graduate training in Couples Therapy and Sexology, by INSPSIC. I am certified by the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses in the following flields:
General Specialization in Clinical and Health Psychology
Advanced Specialization in Psychotherapy
Advanced Specialization in Sexology
Advanced Specialization in Community Psychology
General Specialization in Social and Organizational Psychology

I offer individual therapy for adults as well as couples therapy. I started working with children and families, before focusing my training and practice in adults and couples, which I believe gives me a life span perspective based on experience that I use to best help the people I work with. It is also the foundation for the parental coaching and counselling that I offer, in spite of no longer working directly with the children. My professional path has also included several organizational experiences where I’ve come to learn a great deal about the challenges of NGO's, the corporate world and other highly challenging and competitive environments. This is another level of experience I also try to use in the service to my clients. I believe in approaching mental and emotional health taking into account and integrating the several aspects of our life and self: physical, psychological, emotional, socio-cultural and the relational well-being, as well as personal, family and professional fulfilment. Within this frame I include the importance of how we relate to a life partner or any significant other, how we deal with one’s own body, identity, intimacy, sexuality - in all its diverse expressions - and that naturally led to extending my training and intervention to clinical s**ology and couples therapy. We do not lead perfect lives under perfect circumstances, but we can get to know ourselves better, we can learn new skills and abilities. We can learn to face problems with a different perspective and a clearer sense of how much is old patterns, unavoidable circumstances or choice. We can learn to perceive and relate to ourselves and others differently. Sometimes we can change the circumstances that create distress for us, others choose to accept that distress in a wider frame, where we trade one discomfort for one benefit. But first we need to look at what is and understand it...

Leituras interessantes! "Não fazer nada" é um conceito que nos parece estranho nos dias de hoje, mas faz muita falta para a nossa capacidade de auto-regulação e criatividade... Ofereça a si mesmo/a um "vale presente" "vale não fazer nada durante 2h (ou 1 dia - comece por onde puder)" ou "Amor, ofereço-te 2 horas a tomar conta dos miúdos/tratar da casa para poderes não fazer absolutamente nada!" (esta preferencialmente em duplicado, ou triplicado, ou quantas forem as pessoas cuidadoras, para que cada um/a possa ter a sua vez!)
Nos dias de hoje pode ser uma experiência mais radicalmente diferente e original que qualquer experiência comprada no "odisseias"! 😉🌲

I love the idea of "Kintsugi: The Centuries-Old Art of Repairing Broken Pottery with Gold" (or Kintsukuroi), in which potery is repaired highligting and celebrating the flaws as something that shows the history and makes the piece unique and even more valuable. Gosto de checklists! Não necesssariamente para fazer tudo o que está na lista, mas porque nos ajuda a não esquecer nenhuma opção. O meu desafio para si é ir à lista que encontra no link abaixo, escolher as que são mais importantes para si e garantir que cada semana faz pelo menos uma.
Já faz? Demasiado fácil?
E se forem 2 ou 3? ou 4 ou 5?
Ainda demasiado fácil?
Uma por dia? Mais?

E se descobrir que já faz muito disto e ainda assim é difícil estar bem ou o nosso "bem de antes"... é porque é mesmo! Especialmente no momento que atravessamos.

E se estiver a ser demasiado difícil, incomportável... peça ajuda!

Quando, pela vida, me deparo com algumas situações mais difíceis/problemáticas, de que forma, normalmente, atuo? Como interpreto a situação? E, como me vou sentindo?
E como estes fatores influenciam a forma como lido com essa situação?

💡 Segundo o Transactional Stress/Coping Model, desenvolvido em 1984, por dois cientistas na área de Psicologia, Lazarus e Folkman, a forma como interpretamos os acontecimentos na nossa vida e a forma como avaliamos as ferramentas para lidar com eles, tornam-se fatores fulcrais, para o seu enfrentamento. Não existem estratégias infalíveis para cada problema/situação em específico. É necessário ter em consideração cada situação, o contexto, os recursos que cada pessoa tem disponíveis, o fator stressante e ainda a personalidade dessa pessoa.

E independentemente do resultado final, apenas o fato de se mobilizarem gradualmente estratégias para tentar controlar o problema, já se torna por si só, uma forma de lidar com ele, podendo reduzi-lo, minimizá-lo ou tolerando-o mais adaptativamente.

🎑 Por isso, é essencial tentar e ir fazendo caminho. Torna-se este, um processo de aprendizagem para uma contínua capacitação, sendo essencial a forma como estruturamos mentalmente a situação (quão ameaçadora a percebemos? Quão difícil?) e, a perceção pessoal acerca da capacidade que achamos ter para a enfrentar (sou capaz de superar isto? Tenho competências para isso?).

🌿 E, conhecendo-nos, capacitando-nos, vamos reavaliando toda a situação e fatores influenciadores para que gradualmente se vá desenvolvendo bem-estar perante a situação, desenvolvendo e/ou adaptando estratégias mais ajustadas, resignificando a minha noção de competência de enfrentamento/gestão da frustração perante caídas, etc. Apoio profissional poderá apoiá-lo neste processo, para que mais adequadamente o problema seja encarado.

Today I read this article, via a newsletter from Pink Therapy which made me smile. Laughter is something we truly need. And I am yet to have a client doing the session from the toilet 🤔, but the unmade bed, the closet, the car, the corner in the balcony, the park around the corner from the house, the kitchen... those are all familiar.
We do the best we can with what we have. And necessity truly sparkles criativity.

A partir da próxima semana voltarei a realizar as sessões no consultório, naturalmente com as devidas precauções:
- as cadeiras a 2 metros de distância,
- o ar condicionado é exclusivo para a sala e com saída directa para o exterior,
- haverá álcool-gel e máscaras.
- será feita higienização entre sessões
Tudo o que é necessário para podermos voltar a estar junt@s, com tranquilidade e em segurança.
Já tenho saudades de vos ver ao vivo! :)

Para quem preferir, continuará a ser possível realizar as sessões online, como até aqui.

My recommendation: Don't go after 20 ideas at once. Choose one. Start there. ;)
