A major update on Portugal’s citizenship law.

A proposed reform to the Portuguese Nationality Law was blocked by the Constitutional Court and vetoed by the President.

Now, Parliament will reconsider the decree on April 1, 2026.

The court ruled that several provisions would create disproportionate restrictions on citizenship access and could undermine expectations of applicants with ongoing procedures.

The next parliamentary decision will determine whether the law is amended or confirmed.
