YES Meeting was born in 2006 as a result of a pioneer idea of a student from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. His goal was to gather students from the biomedical areas as well as professional researchers from reference centers and give them the opportunity to compare and discuss their works. The main goal of this project has been ever since to provide students the feeling that their work is not only given the proper value but also recognition from the scientific world. Since its first edition, the congress has been growing and in the last years we can say that it has taken off. In what concerns to the scientific program, the meeting includes:
1. Simposiums held by worldwide known scientists from the most important research centers in the world;
2.Presentations by students of their research works made in their own universities on one of the following six themes: Public Health & Medical Informatics, Neurosciences, Molecular Biology & Physiology, Oncology & Immunology, Clinical Medicine and Surgery;
3.Interactive workshops on multiple themes relation both to basic medicine like human anatomy, obesity, diabetes and clinical medicine such as Eye Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Hematology, Bioengineering among many others. Besides the scientific aspect, there is also a social programme which includes a guided visit to the historic sights of Porto city a other places with turistic interest. It is given the opportunity to the participants to taste the traditional Portuguese cuisine and there is a night reserved to a concert of Tunas Académicas da Faculdade de Medicina as well as Grupo de Fados in order to promote Fado, recently considered Intangible Cultural Heritage. Finally, the meeting comes to an end with a farewell dinner in which the prizes of best research works are given to the students.

The 12th YES Talk is coming, and this year we dive into Intensive Care Medicine under the theme “Holding the Line.”

This edition brings you a series of hands-on workshops, designed to challenge your clinical thinking and strengthen the skills that matter most in critical care. From practical procedures to real-world clinical decision-making, these sessions will place you right at the heart of intensive medicine.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore essential topics such as airway management and mechanical ventilation, point-of-care ultrasound, hemodynamic monitoring, and emergency decision-making in critically ill patients. Through interactive and practical sessions, you will learn how to approach complex clinical scenarios, perform key procedures, and understand the reasoning behind rapid decisions in the ICU.

Our next 12th YES Talk speaker is bringing a specialized focus to the frontlines of critical care and biomedical research!

We are very delighted to announce Dr. Patrick Rehn as a speaker. Dr. Rehn is a medical doctor and clinical researcher at the Heidelberg University Hospital, specializing in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. His impressive background includes deep expertise in hemodynamic management and the study of complex inflammatory responses, contributing to high-impact research within the German Center for Lung Research (DZL).

In his talk, he will dive into the challenges and future of treating life-threatening conditions. From deciphering the biomarkers of septic cardiomyopathy to implementing cutting-edge hemodynamic management strategies in metastatic cancer treatments, his research aims to make intensive care safer, more precise, and more effective for patients worldwide.
