Most newborns lose weight after birth no matter how they are fed, which may be beneficial over the long term.

Exclusive breastfeed infants lose more weight after birth than those who are formula fed.

The average weight lose of a breastfeed baby after birth is 5% to 7%, with the lowest weight occurring on day 3 or 4.

If baby loses more than 7% of his birthweight or continues to lose weight after day 4, breastfeeding dynamic should be evaluated.

Evaluate breastfeeding dynamics if baby loses more than 7% of his birthweight.
