🐾A Gentle Support Guide for Pets During Fireworks Season🐾
Fireworks season is one of the most stressful and sensitive times for animals. Loud noises, flashing lights, and unexpected vibrations can trigger panic, bolting, disorientation, and even injuries.
The good news? There are simple and effective things we can do to help them feel safer 🤍
🌿Create a calm, protected space
• Close windows and draw curtains or blinds to reduce both noise and flashing lights
• Choose an interior room or a space where outside noise feels softer
🎶Use sound to your advantage
• Play gentle music or white noise, slightly louder than usual
• Fireworks and music are both sound waves—when they meet, they overlap and soften each other, so the noise doesn’t hit your animal as harshly
🌸Scent, atmosphere & natural remedies
• A diffuser with a few drops of *pet-safe* lavender oil can be calming
• If you use Bach Flower Rescue Remedy, you can offer it already in the morning, especially if your animal is also sensitive to visitors or extra activity
🧘Emotional regulation starts with us
• Stay calm. Don’t get irritated or tense about the fireworks. Speak gently and stay grounded—animals feel our energy very clearly
• If your animal wants to be held, hold them close—the rhythm of your heartbeat can be deeply soothing
A small, energetic tip
• You can put a blue T-shirt on your dog
• Blue helps soften the impact of sound waves and offers a sense of support
• Avoid red—it increases activation and agitation
Comfort & gentle distraction
• Offer favorite toys, long-lasting chews, or food-stuffed toys
• Chewing helps release nervous tension
• Some animals feel safer in a crate or a lightly covered space
Outdoor breaks with extra care
• Always keep your animal on a leash, even in fenced yards
• Panicked animals can bolt without direction and get lost very easily
A simple supportive hold (Jin Shin Jyutsu)
There is a very simple hand position that can help animals during intense noise:
- One hand gently placed between the front legs, on the chest
- The other hand gently between the shoulder blades, on the back
- No pressure. No fixing. Just a soft, calm presence
You are there, offering safety, connection, and grounding. If possible, practice this hold before New Year’s Eve, in a quiet moment when your animal is relaxed. That way, the body recognizes it as a safe sensation and can return to it more easily when the noise begins.
Most important reminder: Please never take your pets to firework displays. What feels festive to us can be terrifying and dangerous for them. Enjoy the celebration—and allow your animals to stay somewhere safe and quiet.
💛 I wish you and your furry souls a gentle, calm, and protected transition into the New Year 💛🐾
