A la recherche du musée vivant...
I have always been fascinated by art, ever since I was a chid. My art teacher in secondary school was also a painter and guided us gently in the amazing universe of art.
I wanted to study art, but I was taught thousands of stories about the starving artist who sacrifices material well-being to focus on his/her artwork, therefore I had to let go a beautiful dream. When I came to Timisoara, 25 years ago, I was all about study and hard ‘serious’ word: foreign languages, journalism, project management. No more fooling around… No time to waste… No distractions… And I was an A student and an amazing professional…
But then, one day, I met an amazing team from a reputed local NGO: ‘Doina Pocioianu’ Art-therapy Organisation. An entity that was founded by an artist who was also a psychologist: Doina Pocioianu. This is how I rediscovered passion, by creating tactile books and games for visually impaired children within my beloved project ‘Modelling emotions through art”, financed by the Netherlands embassy in Bucharest.
I few years later, I started painting (again)… I was like … Meet Mrs. Beatrice…
And this self-discovery path brought me today on the verge of going to Reykjavík, Iceland, to learn about ‘the modern living museum’. Museums, in life…
Several studies show benefits of art museums as settings for therapy. These benefits include improvement of memory and lower stress levels, and amelioration of social inclusion. Populations studied include older individuals, people with enduring mental health problems, people with dementia, and the socially isolated.
So, in 3 days, I’ll be in Reykjavík with the best team possible, meeting the local cultural community and absorbing all the beauty and best practices to come back and share it with you.
Our goal will no longer be merely to attain a sum of knowledge; it will be above all the education of a harmonious modern person, the transmission of methods of gaining knowledge, and then, finally, the attainment of knowledge itself.
So, we will keep in touch, my friends…
Reykjavík, here we come !
