🇷🇴 Am găsit întâmplător această hartă realizată în 1715 de cartograful galez Emanuel Bowen, intitulată „Turkey in Europe”. Ea conține o serie de detalii interesante, cm ar fi porecla de Mica Târgoviște sub care ar fi fost cunoscut târgul Piteștilor, sau zona dintre Iași și Vaslui despre care autorul a notat că era la acea vreme „cu totul pustie”. Autorul a mai menționat că Cerneți ar fi fost în trecut reședința domnitorului Valahiei, ceea ce însă nu este adevărat. Cerneți a fost, într-adevăr, o localitate importantă în trecut, însă era doar reședință de județ. Bowen a devenit mai târziu cartograf regal atât pentru George al II-lea al Marii Britanii, cât și pentru Ludovic al XV-lea al Franței.
🇬🇧 I found, by chance, this map made in 1715 by the Welsh cartographer Emanuel Bowen, entitled “Turkey in Europe”. It contains a few interesting details, such as the nickname “Little Târgoviște” by which the town of Pitesti was known, or the area between Iași and Vaslui, which the author noted was “all deserted” at that time. The author also mentioned that Cerneți was once the residence of the ruler of Wallachia, which is not true. Cerneți was indeed an important town in the past, but it was only a county seat. Bowen later became the royal cartographer to both George II of Great Britain and Louis XV of France.
