On October 10th, the world comes together to promote mental health awareness and fight stigma. This year’s theme, “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” highlights the psychological effects of disasters and crises. While one in three affected individuals experiences distress, mental health remains underfunded and often overlooked. In Rwanda, disaster responses mainly focus on physical needs, ignoring emotional well-being. True recovery requires addressing both aspects. Let us ensure that mental health care becomes a vital part of emergency response, fostering resilience, healing, and hope for individuals and communities worldwide.
