أول من اخترع النظارة الطبية هو العالم المسلم الحسن بن الهيثم
كان يشتغل بتأليف والقراءة ، وعندما كبر ضعف بصره، فقام بإجراء تجارب عديدة على الزجاج ليصنع منه نظارة تعينه على القراءة، وتوصل إلى اختراع عدسة محدبة كان تظهر الكلام والأشكال بصورة كبيرة وواضحة، وأخذ يطور عدساته .
