A very important piece of advice for both the patient and the physician when old medications are found with the patient:

Patients should always inform the treating physician about any old or previously prescribed medications they have, and should not use them without medical advice. Likewise, physicians must carefully review all existing medications to avoid drug interactions, incorrect dosing, or the use of expired or inappropriate drugs, in order to ensure patient safety and effective treatment.
