Healthy tips to consider with our children return to school:

1. Ensure a balanced diet: Encourage your child to eat a nutritious breakfast to fuel their day. Include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy products in their meals and snacks.

2. Promote hydration: Give your child a reusable water bottle and remind them to drink water throughout the day. Staying hydrated is essential for optimal brain function and overall health.

3. Encourage regular physical activity: Encourage your child to engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Encourage activities they enjoy, such as walking, biking, swimming, or playing sports.

4. Prioritize sufficient sleep: Establish a consistent schedule to ensure your child gets enough rest. Most school-aged children need around 9-11 hours of sleep per night for optimal growth and development.

5. Teach good hand hygiene: Teach your child the importance of washing hands frequently with soap and water, especially before meals and after using the restroom. This practice helps prevent the spread of germs and illnesses.

6. Ensure up-to-date vaccinations: Check with your child's pediatrician to ensure they are current on all recommended vaccinations. Vaccinations protect against various diseases and help maintain a healthy school environment.

7. Promote mental well-being: Encourage open communication with your child and create a supportive environment. Help them manage stress by teaching relaxation techniques, promoting hobbies, and encouraging physical activity.

8. Limit screen time: Set limits on your child's screen time to ensure a healthy balance between technology and other activities. Encourage them to engage in activities like reading, playing outdoors, and interacting with friends.

9. Pack a healthy lunch: Pack a well-balanced lunch for your child, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit sugary snacks and opt for healthier alternatives like fresh fruit or yogurt.

10. Stay informed about the school's health policies.

Remember to consult with your pediatrician for personalized advice.

Encourage healthy habits and limit activities that include screens. Try to engage your kids in alternative activities to video games, such as sports, crafts, board games, and educational activities.

Here are the current screen time limits:

- Below 18 months of age, limit screen use to video chatting along with an adult.

- Between 18 and 24 months, limit screen time to watching educational programs with a caregiver.

- For children 2-5 years old, limit screen time to about 1 hour per day

- For kids over the age of 6 years, allow no more than 60 minutes on school days and 2 hours on non-school days.

Turn off all screens during family meals and outings.

Use parental controls.

Turn off screens and remove them from bedrooms 30-60 minutes before bedtime.
