Join me for another 8-week in-person Handstand course on the 15th of January 😃🤸

A handstand course for people who have never done handstands before, want to improve their freestanding hold or do shape changes, and everything in-between.

The group will be small and the structure for this class will be the same for everybody, though you will receive your individual handstand drills to work on that are suitable for your level.

Why join a handstand course? Here are some reasons:
- It is FUN!
- You want to improve upper body strength
- You want to improve posture and upper body flexibility
- You want to try something different with your training

Whatever your reason, we hope to see you at the handstand course on the 15th of January :)

The course can be held in both English and Swedish depending on the participants.

Happy New Year!

The What vs. The How
🤸‍♀️
Over the years of teaching physical training, I’ve seen that for building general strength or muscle, or lose weight it is often less about -What- you do and more about -How- you do it.
🤸‍♀️
If you do a walking lunge with dumbbells vs. a static lunge with a bar doesn’t matter so much if you do both of them well and work hard enough.
🤸‍♀️
For handstands, which is a more specialised area of training, the -What- will be more essen-tial than for general strength, muscle building and fat loss. We have less exercises to choose from and the skill of balancing on two hands can be quite different from person to person. This means choosing exercises that suit you individually becomes more vital.
🤸‍♀️
In the Handstand course I’m starting next week, Wednesday the 9th at 17.15 the group will be small to give time and space to practice exercises and change them depending on how it works for you.
🤸‍♀️
I want everyone to feel the vibe and encouragement of being part of a HS-group, with plenty of 1-1 attention from me to make good personal progress.
🤸‍♀️
Keen to learn how to balance on your hands AND live in Gothenburg? Come join us 😊
🤸‍♀️
Follow the link in my bio to sign up for the Early bird finishing this Wednesday the 2nd.
🤸‍♀️
Shoot me a DM if you’ve got questions 😊

Herbal studies have been a great reminder to do things now. Don't wait.

One week the lilac flowers bloom the next they're gone. If I don't go foraging regularly I will miss some of the beautiful wild plants Sweden has to offer.

Elderflower and rose are in bloom right now. This week I plan to make soft drink and syrup, perhaps something more...

In this picture you can see a salad I made with 5 wild herbs 🍀

I enjoy strength training 🏋️‍♀️

But I don’t enjoy the tension I have in my body after it, or the one that can build and “store” over time. 👎

If you, like me, do physical training that leaves you with bodily tension that is not nice, then this video shows a selection of drills that I have found useful. I hope you like them 😊

I do find that the standing moving drills; rotation or shaking does a great job in a short time for me. 5-10 minutes is sufficient although longer is honestly nicer and better. I wouldn’t do less than 5 minutes as it takes a bit of time to let the tension go. You can try this for yourself to see how it works for you: compare 2.5, 5 and 10 minutes. 😁

The standing breath drill is interesting. I don’t yet have the skill to relax as well in this one. Some days I feel a nice relaxation after about 5 minutes but other times I tend to build up more tension. I suspect the training I’ve done prior would affect this.

I am not in a place where I can stand for longer and feel relaxed. Which is a good reason to keep practicing. The standing practice may be best practiced on its own, separate from strength training with this intention in mind.

Though, the thing I really like about standing practice after a strength session is that it helps me feel grounded. I go inwards and find my center. It makes it a nice transition out of training into everyday activities. 🧘‍♀️

Walking in nature with a focus on slow breaths is one of my favorite ways of “returning home”. A process that helps me relax too. 💜🌿

Traditionally I think many people finish a training session by stretching. This can also do the trick in letting go of tension if you stay gentle, present, and focus on breath.

Do you have a practice you do to let go of tension after sport or a strength training session? 😃

I am so excited to tell you that issue #5 of the Handstand press magazine is out now! 😃🤩

I had the honor of writing an article for this issue about the handstand training I did during my pregnancy and the months after Freyja came to the world. 🤰

And that’s not all, I was also the guest editor for this issue! 🤓

It was a fun and interesting experience to be on the other side of writing an article and communicating with the in-house copy editor together with the authors on how to best convey their story.

It taught me a few things about how I can better express myself in writing. 😊

For my own article in issue 5, I had my father .se take photos of myself balancing on my hands while my (at the time) 9-month-old daughter was practicing balancing on her feet! You can see a few of them in this post. 🥰

This was such a fun shoot because we were trying to time me and Freyja balancing at the same time :D It was totally inspired by an image I had seen earlier of .l.anderskov when she practiced her handstands in a Lego box!

You can also read about Signe’s fascinating story doing her master thesis while pregnant with her second child in this one. As well as seeing her beautiful photos on the cover! 😍

My friend Erdi is another contributor to this issue. He talks about his experience coaching parents for handbalancing and how he’s helped them navigate it all. 😊

Another friend of mine to find in this issue is the lovely .alicastro who answered the survey about how she got into handstands and what her family and friends thought of her career choice. 😃

This is of course just a fraction of all the cool people of the handstand community taking part and contributing. It is a special one and I highly recommend getting yourself a copy 😊

It is a lovely magazine to hold in your caring hands💜

https://buy.stripe.com/9AQbLb3eh6Tq1OgfZs

Practicing “Partner Stretching” can be a lot more than just improving flexibility.

Increasing flexibility can be cool.

But I think there are far cooler things that can happen during partner stretching! 😃

To stretch -well- with a partner we need a few ingredients (skills).

These are (but not limited to):
- Actively trying to “be in the room” (being present) during the practice.
- Listening to what is happening within you, within your partner and in the room.
- A desire to be in the room stretching another person (or people) in the most sensitive way*

*With “the most sensitive way” I mean that the person assisting their friend in stretching need a sharp ability to sense what is happening within them so they can in turn act appropriately in their assistance.

You may not have the strongest quality ingredients to start with. But if you immerse yourself fully into the practice of partner stretching you will develop these skills along the way. 😊

The consideration of other people brings a whole other layer of complexity to the stretching compared to doing it solo. Considerations that will possibly make us more in touch with the abovementioned skills.

If you live In Gothenburg and are interested in trying partner stretching, send me a PM. 📲

I’m currently looking into options for running classes again, like I did back in the day in Sydneytown! 😊💜🍀

The stretching I teach is based on the methods. I later developed it further by going to class
