🧊You'll be told to rest as much as possible and to hold an ice pack on the sore area several times a day for the first few days to reduce swelling and pain.

💊Your practitioner will probably also prescribe a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen to reduce swelling and pain. Lying on your side will probably be the most comfortable position.

💕If the pain is still unbearable after a week or so, be sure to tell your caregiver. She may prescribe stronger pain medication. (If you're , be sure she knows so she can prescribe drugs that are considered safe for your newborn.)

🧃 can be especially painful if you have an injured . Be sure to avoid it by drinking a lot of fluids, eating plenty of fiber, and using a stool softener, if you need one.

📌Symptoms of a injury include:
- Pain or tenderness in the lower back
- Pain on top of the buttocks area
- Pain or numbness with sitting
- Bruising and swelling around the base of the spine

🩹A can be very painful and slow to heal. Healing time for an injured tailbone depends on the severity of the injury:
- If you have a fracture, healing can take between 8 to 12 weeks.
- If your tailbone injury is a bruise, healing takes about 4 weeks.

👩‍⚕️See your doctor if pain is severe, or if you have trouble with bowel movements or urination.

Surgery is needed in fewer than 10% of cases.

🤰The pressure of a passing through the birth ca**l can bruise, dislocate, or even fracture your tailbone. Fractures aren't common, but some women actually hear a crack or pop when their breaks.

🦴You're more likely to injure your tailbone during delivery if your baby is very large or in an odd position, or if your pelvis is very narrow or oddly shaped. The shape and mobility of the coccyx may play a role, too. Women who have previously injured their tailbone have a greater risk of injuring again during a va**nal delivery. It's also more likely to happen if your doctor delivers your baby with .

🩹If you injure your tailbone, you may have general tenderness in that area as well as pain that tends to be most severe when you're sitting. You may feel pain when rising from sitting to standing or if you strain to have a bowel movement. The pain can last for weeks or months. It may hurt when you sit down, stand for a long time, use the bathroom, or have s*x.

🩺How is it diagnosed?
If you tell your practitioner that you're having pain in the tailbone area, she'll ask you a few questions and do a physical exam, both external and internal (re**al). In some cases, she may also send you for an X-ray, which may be helpful in making the diagnosis.

❓What can I do for my bladder after pregnancy?

- Sticking to a fixed bathroom schedule will help control your bladder. Try to stretch out the time between trips to the bathroom and build up your tolerance gradually.

- Try to avoid constipation after pregnancy, so full bowels don't put added pressure on your .

- Keep drinking plenty of fluids every day

- exercises: help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and can be performed anywhere - stop the flow of urine by squeezing the muscles tightly, holding for 5 seconds, and then continuing to urinate. Do these squeezes several times per day for maximum benefit.

- : small silicone ring inserted into the va**na in the morning and removed each night. This device is designed to stop the flow from a woman’s urethra, and may remain in place all day or only during more strenuous activities if desired.

🏥If this approaches doesn't work, your doctor may conduct further testing to identify the problem. While stress incontinence is the most likely scenario in postpartum women, there are other possible causes, such as nerve damage, loss of muscular support, muscle problems, or injury to the bladder.

💊Certain prescription medications can slow down an overactive bladder. Your will recommend and prescribe the medications that work best for you and your specific symptoms.

🔬There are other treatments to relief from symptoms:

- Electrical Stimulation Therapy: gentle electric current used to make the muscles in the pelvic floor contract like a Kegel.

- Bladder Sling Surgery: may be the best option for frequent leakage as long as you aren't planning any future pregnancies.

- Abdominal Suspension: Stitches are placed on both sides of the urethra and attached to a ligament that lies on the p***c bone, resupporting the bladder or lifting it back to normal position.

- Collagen Injections: These can bulk up and strengthen the tissue around the .

❓What causes ?

💦One of the most common due to pregnancy- and delivery-weakened muscles around the bladder and , is urinary incontinence.

That´s when you have a harder time controlling your flow because the muscles have taken a licking and, consequently, keep on dripping. 🧻

🤰As your uterus shrinks in the weeks following
delivery, it sits directly on the bladder, compressing it and making it more difficult to stem the tide. Hormonal changes during and after pregnancy can also batter your bladder.

📌Contributing factors: the bladder and pelvis
muscles are weakened during . In addition, the uterus will begin to shrink back to its normal size, which causes repeated compressions on the bladder.
Rapid changes in hormones also need to be considered as the body attempts to balance its female s*x hormones after a child is born. Also factors as increased age or underlying health issues tied to weight can increase risk of incontinence.

All together, these influential factors lead women to
face a much higher risk for urinary incontinence. The good news is that most women can recover with the proper precautions and effective treatment.✨

⭐ tips:

- Reduce or completely give up caffeine, carbonated drinks, and alcohol. These beverages, along with spicy foods can cause the bladder to contract much more than what is necessary. ☕️

- If suffering from excessive overweight, losing some weight will ease the pressure on your bladder and pelvic floor.🏃🏼‍♀️

- Stop smoking if you haven’t done so already.
Ni****ne causes the muscles of the bladder to spasm, and persistent smoking often leads to a chronic cough that encourages bladder leakage.🚬

- Don’t stop drinking water thinking that it will reduce your urge or need to urinate. You may only end up dehydrated or with a urinary tract infection.🧊

💜Postpartum — the involuntary leaking of that new moms often experience, usually while laughing, sneezing, coughing, or performing any strenuous activity — is very common after giving birth.🤰

👩‍👦Women who give birth va**nally are more likely to experience these complications during , compared to women who had , says a Obstetrics & Gynecology study.

📈Most cases resolve in the first year after birth. However, 5 years after delivery, 30% - 50% of women report some degree of spritzing and 10% to 20% of women report having leakage that they consider socially bothersome.

💦Incontinence comes in two varieties:

- : If you when you forcefully laugh, sneeze, cough, run, jump or lift weights. It's really common in the third trimester because of the pressure of the uterus on the . Compounding the problem are the hormones that make your tissues and joints more elastic for delivery: They also reduce bladder support, allowing urine to leak.🧻

- : About 70% of women with stress incontinence also experience urge incontinence, which is caused by an overactive bladder. You get the sudden urge to go, even though your bladder may be nearly empty, and leak before you can get to the bathroom.🚽

📢Topic of the week:

❓Can va**nal tears during be prevented?

There's no guarantee you'll be able to prevent va**nal tearing during childbirth, but some research suggests that taking these steps might decrease the risk of severe tears:

- Prepare to push. During the pushing stage of labor, aim for more controlled and less expulsive pushing. Pushing the baby out gently and slowly can allow your tissue time to stretch and give way for the baby.
- Keep your perineum warm.
-
- Deliver in an upright, nonflat position.

💡If you're concerned about va**nal tears during childbirth, talk to your health care provider. Ask what techniques he or she uses to prevent va**nal tears and for any additional advice to help you prepare for delivery.🩺

❗️So what can you do if the damage is already done?

Your health care provider will evaluate your recovery at your checkup. If you've had a 3rd-degree or 4th-degree va**nal tear, you might need to see your doctor more often to ensure early detection of any problems. Tell your health care provider if you're experiencing severe, persistent or increasing pain, which could be a sign of infection. If you experience complications from a va**nal tear, you might be referred to a urogynecologist, colore**al surgeon or other specialist.

✨To ease discomfort while you're recovering:

- Sit on a pillow or padded ring.
- Cool the wound with an ice pack, or place a chilled witch hazel pad between a sanitary napkin and the wound.
- Use a squeeze bottle to pour warm water on your as you're passing urine.
- Sit in a warm bath just deep enough to cover your buttocks and hips (sitz bath) for five minutes. Use cold water if you find it more soothing.
- Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. Ask your health care provider about a numbing spray or cream, if needed.
- Talk to your health care provider about using a stool softener or laxative to prevent .

✅Most importantly. Demand postpartum care, and make sure you get checked up on continuously for as long as you need. Sometimes it takes years and many surgical treatments. 💜

💕The problem of women being injured in childbirth has for years been exacerbated by poor diagnosis, improper care and an unwillingness to speak about the issue. Many women suffer in silence.

❓What causes a va**nal tear during childbirth?

- It’s most common during a first delivery
- Prolonged pushing during the delivery
- Childbirths later in life
- Heavier babies
- The position of the baby, e.g. a breech birth when a baby is born bottom first instead of head first.
- Use of forceps or a vacuum during delivery.
- A large baby (more than 8 pounds).
- If you’ve had an episiotomy, an incision made in the perineum.

❗️Consequences of va**nal tearing can be:

📢Topic of the week:

🤰For va**nal childbirth to occur, the baby must be able to fit past the pelvic muscles and connective tissue. There is usually some amount of stretching or tearing that allows this to happen.

🩺Vaginal tearing occur when the baby's head is coming through the va**nal opening and is either too large for the va**na to stretch around or the head is a normal size but the va**na doesn't stretch easily.

🤱Up to 90% of first-time mothers, have some tears (also called lacerations) of the va**na or perineum. These tears are classified into 4 categories by the depth of tissue involved:

- 1st-degree tears involve only the skin of the va**na or perineum; these tears often do not need stitches, heal quickly, and usually have no lasting consequences.

- 2nd-degree tears involve the skin and the layer of tissue under the skin; when an episiotomy (surgical incision to relieve the birthprocedjure) is performed, it is usually intended to be second-degree.

- 3rd-degree tears involve the skin, tissue under the skin, and the muscles of the a**l sphincter.

- 4th-degree tears involve all the same layers as a third-degree tear plus the re**al lining.

⚠️The most cruitial moment to repair the surgically is right after the delivery, and a lack of awareness in the medical profession means that up to 40% of serious injuries are missed, according to The MASIC Foundation.

What can I do?🔍

❗️Always see your gynecologist/clinician when suffering from f***l incontinence for medical advice. You may be eligible for surgery.

🩺Once the sphincter muscles have been damaged, surgery may be able to repair the separation but may not restore normal function to the muscles. More complex surgery to construct new sphincter muscles or to create an artificial a**l sphincter is sometimes effective.
If incontinence persists, let your clinician know. There are a number of non-surgical approaches to help you as well.🙏

✨It is hard to cure , but managing it can change your life:

- Reduce constipation and get expert advice on diet, eat more high-fiber foods and drink plenty of fluids.
- Increase your exercise.
- Avoid straining. Straining during bowel movements can eventually weaken a**l sphincter muscles or damage nerves, possibly leading to f***l incontinence.
- A**l irrigation, medicine and neuromodulation (electrical stimulation of the affected nerves) are also available through medical care.
- Physiotherapy
- Mental care, see a therapist to relief your stress around the condition. It´s equally important as treating the physical damage.
- Download the app “Flush - Toilet Finder” with public restrooms around the world.

💜Remember that:
- It’s common and doctors are used to seeing people with it🩺
- It’s not something you have to put up with
- It probably won't get better on its own
- It can be treated🩺
- It’s not something to be ashamed of

❓What is F***l Incontinence?
Inability to control , causing stool (f***s) to leak unexpectedly from the re**um. Also called , it ranges from an occasional leakage of stool while passing gas to a complete loss of bowel control.🔍

💜Causes:
Common causes of f***l incontinence include diarrhea, constipation, and muscle or nerve damage. The muscle or nerve damage may be associated with aging or due to .

✨Muscle damage: Injury to the rings of muscle at the end of the re**um (a**l sphincter) may make it difficult to hold stool back properly. This kind of damage can occur during childbirth, especially if you have an episiotomy or forceps are used during delivery.

✨Nerve damage: Injury to the nerves that sense stool in the re**um or those that control the a**l sphincter can lead to f***l incontinence. The nerve damage can be caused by childbirth, constant straining during bowel movements, spinal cord injury or stroke.

- Chronic Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Loss of storage capacity in the re**um

- Surgery involving the re**um and a**s, can cause muscle and nerve damage that leads to f***l incontinence.

- Re**al prolapse: the re**um drops down into the a**s. In women, f***l incontinence can occur if the re**um protrudes through the va**na.

💜Risk factors:
A number of factors may increase your risk, including:

- Age: can occur at any age, but more common over 65.
- 🚺Being female: can be a complication of .

📢Topic of the week: Post Partum Depression

Here it comes, the golden ticket question:
What can I do?🔍

✨Prevention:
If you have a history of depression, tell your doctor as soon as you find out you're pregnant.

- During pregnancy, your doctor can monitor you for signs of depression & you may complete a depression-screening questionnaire during your pregnancy and after delivery. Sometimes can be managed with support groups, counseling or other therapies. In other cases, antidepressants may be recommended.

- After your baby is born, your doctor may recommend an early postpartum checkup to screen for signs of postpartum depression. The earlier it's detected, the earlier treatment can begin. If you have a history of postpartum depression, your doctor may recommend antidepressant treatment or psychotherapy immediately after delivery.

✨Treatment:
Treatment and recovery time vary, depending on the severity of your depression and your individual needs. If you have an underactive thyroid or an underlying illness, your doctor may treat those conditions or refer you to the appropriate specialist. Your doctor may also refer you to a mental health professional.

💕The baby blues usually fade on their own within a few days to one to two weeks. In the meantime:
- Get as much rest as you can.
- Accept help from family and friends.
- Connect with other new moms.
- Create time to take care of yourself.
- Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs, which can make mood swings worse.

💕Postpartum depression is often treated with psychotherapy (also called talk therapy or mental health counseling), medication or both.

▶️Psychotherapy: It may help to talk through your concerns with a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental health professional. Through therapy, you can find better ways to cope with your feelings, solve problems, set realistic goals and respond to situations in a positive way. Sometimes family or relationship therapy also helps.

▶️Antidepressants. Your doctor may recommend an antidepressant. If you're breast-feeding, any medication you take will enter your breast milk. However, most antidepressants can be used during breast-feeding with little risk of side effects for your baby. Work with your doctor to weigh the potential risks and benefits of specific antidepressants.

With appropriate treatment, postpartum depression symptoms usually improve. In some cases, postpartum depression can continue, becoming chronic depression. It's important to continue treatment after you begin to feel better. Stopping treatment too early may lead to a relapse.

💕Postpartum psychosis requires immediate treatment, usually in the hospital.
Treatment may include:

▶️Medication. Treatment may require a combination of medications — such as antipsychotic medications, mood stabilizers and benzodiazepines — to control your signs and symptoms.

▶️Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). If your postpartum depression is severe and you experience postpartum psychosis, ECT may be recommended if symptoms do not respond to medication. ECT is a procedure in which small electrical currents are passed through the brain, intentionally triggering a brief seizure. ECT seems to cause changes in brain chemistry that can reduce the symptoms of psychosis and depression, especially when other treatments have been unsuccessful.

Treatment for postpartum psychosis can challenge a mother's ability to breast-feed. Separation from the baby makes breast-feeding difficult, and some medications used to treat postpartum psychosis aren't recommended for women who are breast-feeding. If you're experiencing postpartum psychosis, your doctor can help you work through these challenges.
