🇸🇪 Sweden moves closer to osteopathic regulation! A significant milestone for osteopathy in the Nordic region 🙌
The Swedish Osteopathic Association (SOF) has submitted its official response to the government inquiry SOU 2025:63 – Strengthened Patient Safety through the Right Competence. The inquiry confirms that osteopaths in Sweden already meet all criteria for professional regulation – except for one: a national higher education programme in osteopathy.
That final element is now being established. A new four-year osteopathy degree programme will launch in 2026 at the Nordic Institute for Manual Medicine (NIMM), developed to meet Swedish and European academic and clinical standards 🎓
“Once the Swedish education is established and quality assured, all requirements for regulation will be fulfilled. This marks a decisive step for patient safety, professional recognition, and Nordic harmonisation.”
Says Emmelie Hansen, President of the Swedish Osteopathic Association (SOF).
With this development, Sweden is moving closer to joining its Nordic neighbours, where osteopathy is already regulated and authorised — strengthening professional alignment and cross-border cooperation across the region 🇸🇪🇩🇰🇳🇴🇮🇸🇫🇮
