📍 Chinese Parents in Singapore Helping to Care for Their Grandchildren
Today we came for the LTVP medical check-up.
Two simple tests:
🩸 Blood test (HIV)
📸 Chest X-ray
The total cost is SGD 40 + GST.
If applying for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP), many approvals now can be granted for up to 5 years at one time.
The medical process itself is straightforward, but it brings many thoughts.
Many Chinese parents come to Singapore not for travel, not for retirement enjoyment, but to help their children care for the grandchildren.
A simple sentence —
“You focus on work, I’ll take care of the rest.”
Behind it lies decades of sacrifice and unconditional love.
👵👴 Chinese-style parents
Often put their children first
Give their full support
Even adjusting their own lifestyle and social circles
In comparison, many Singaporean seniors also love their children and are willing to help,
but they tend to emphasize personal boundaries.
Helping is a choice, not an obligation.
It’s not about right or wrong.
It’s simply cultural differences.
The selflessness of Chinese parents is a deep and enduring love.
Different cultures, different expressions of care — each has its own strengths.
Standing in the hospital queue, seeing so many grey-haired parents there for the sake of their families,
you can’t help but feel:
Love truly crosses borders.
