We are just a few days away till the Chinese New Year! Our Senior Care Centres and Active Ageing Centres are all decked up in festive decorations, ready to welcome the new year with a bang!

Fancy some shopping? 🛍️

Every once in a while, our AAC members get to go on excursions and outings to take part in activities outside our centre. This time, it was a shopping trip to secure some goodies in time for Chinese New Year!

Together with the members from Methodist Welfare Services (MWS)' active ageing centre, participants were brought to the Woodlands and Jurong areas to explore different shops and products that were for sale. From seafood to noodles, sauces and snacks, there was a wide variety of dry and frozen goods to check out and buy. Even if no purchases were made, we hope it was still a fun time out with fellow AAC friends nevertheless. 🥳

Singapore is moving towards becoming a "super-aged society".

What does this mean for us? How can we prepare ourselves and our loved ones when emergency situations - in particular, those that involve the elderly - happen? What can we do to minimise the possibility of such emergency situations from happening?

Throwback to a special kueh making workshop at our Active Ageing Centre (Care)! 🧑🏼‍🍳

Led by facilitators from Edufarm, our AAC members who joined the workshop got to try their hand at making a classic Chinese sweet treat - 𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘒𝘶 𝘒𝘶𝘦𝘩 (red tortoise cake)! To switch things up and make things a little more unique, participants got to make their kuehs out of pink, white, and even yellow glutinous rice flour skins besides the traditional red colour. The fillings, of course, were the classic sweet mung bean filling prepared in advance for our participants’ convenience. At the end of the session, everyone also got to bring home and enjoy their yummy handmade creations with their loved ones. ☺️

Get your body moving 🕺💃!

Keeping active is important no matter the intensity of the activity we do, so we always make sure to have at least one physical activity a day at our 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲. From a seated exercise following a video demonstration or group adapted sports activities catered for seniors, we always aim to include some variety to keep things fresh and interesting for everyone!

𝙑𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙀𝙭𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 : 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗚𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 🎁🤝🏼🎁

After the centre's Christmas celebration, our volunteers organised a gift exchange as a little something extra for the team. Despite it being a relatively short event, our volunteers definitely know how to make use of the small pockets of free time before the start of the gift exchange to have some fun and dance!

There's no better way to celebrate the last holiday before the new year, than with a huge festive celebration with everyone! 🎄⛄

From skits to the all-time favourite Bingo activity and a scrumptious lunch, it was an extra special La Kopi session with much laughter and fun! Thank you to everyone who joined - we hope you all had fun, and special thanks to our team of volunteers as always for facilitating the session! 💖

Christmas festivities have also begun over at our 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲!

Putting a fun holiday twist to one of our usual centre activities, seniors got extra creative with designing their own candy cane treats, and even colour in a wintery scene with Santa Claus and a snowman! Where creativity has no limits, many of our seniors also did not limit themselves to the usual reds and whites associated with the Christmas holiday, instead opting for more unique and fun colours such as blues, yellows and oranges in their artworks. Here's to ringing in the final month of the year with a colourful bang!
