Blood glutathione levels decline steadily with age in both men and women. The reduction begins from around age 20 at roughly 10% to 15% every 10 years. After the age of 50, the decline accelerates due to rising free radical activity, oxidative stress and cellular inflammation.
Over a 60 year span, males show an average reduction of about 31.5% while females experience a steeper decline of about 53%.
This highlights a significant age-related vulnerability, particularly in women later in life.
