Would you believe it if I tell you that tiny piece of plastic on Jacob’s finger is what helps him wake up with clear vision every morning without the need of wearing glasses?

Let us introduce to you Orthokeratology aka Ortho-k, a treatment involving the use of a customised lens that gently reshape the cornea and corrects refractive errors such as Myopia and astigmatism.

**How it works: Wear the customised Ortho-k lens overnight → cornea gently reshapes → clear day‑time vision without glasses/contacts**

Apart from the convenience of not having to wear glasses, another key reason we fit Ortho-k is for the purpose of combating increasing Myopia. Studies have shown that Orthokeratology has a high efficacy in preventing Myopia progression.

8-year-old Jacob has successfully completed his first month of Ortho-k treatment with our optometrist, and his recent eye examination showed that his unaided visual acuity is now 6/6 in the day without glasses/contact lenses. (His pre-treatment Myopia was -4.00 Dioptres with astigmatism of -1.75 Dioptres). Though we are very happy with this result, our optometrist is still closely monitoring Jacob’s corneal health as he has mild Epiblepharon, a condition whereby an extra fold of skin pushes his lower eyelashes inwards and rubs on his cornea. But fortunately, most children may grow out of this condition as their facial structure matures.

Despite all the advantages, Ortho-k treatment may not be suitable for everyone, especially in cases of high astigmatism or cornea abnormalities. Another case of successful myopia control! Elliot has been wearing the Stellest lenses since June 2022. To date, his Myopia has not worsened even a bit for almost 3 years, albeit a slight increase in astigmatism.

Despite going through a growth spurt, we are relieved that Elliot’s Myopia has not deteriorated. We will continue to monitor and manage Elliot’s Myopia closely, as he will soon transition to secondary education, with more intense and prolonged near work undoubtedly.

Shih Thong is here to collect her new on trend translucent series glasses! Her joy is evident from that big smile on her face!

Our optometrist had the honour of managing Shih Thong’s myopia since the year 2021. In the span of 4 years, her myopia has only worsened by -1.00D in totality.
