The chatter of 50 people in a large, high-ceilinged room.
On most days, that wouldn’t seem remarkable.
But on Saturday it was.
Many of the people in that room had . Before their surgery, following a conversation in that environment would have been almost impossible.
On Saturday, as we celebrated , I met several patients whom I implanted when I first came to Singapore more than a decade ago.
Their stories shared a common theme: their lives had changed immeasurably.
They spoke about confidence — how they used to feel quiet or withdrawn and now participate fully in life.
New jobs.
New hobbies.
Travelling.
Phone calls to loved ones.
Listening to grandkids.
One woman smiled and said she now feels like “Superwoman.” 🦸♀️
This transformation took courage. Surgery and the idea of an implant felt daunting to most, and afterwards comes the work of rehabilitation — learning to hear in a completely new way.
I was beyond delighted to see them!! ❤️
Hearing is about so much more than sound. That room was full of connection!
