Recognition of symptoms (high fever, myalgia, bad cough, runny nose, sorethroat), early swab testing, and the appropriate treatment with Tamiflu (antiviral medication), coupled with regular vaccination and immunisation can mitigate the transmission of Influenza infections in our community

Stop the spread, and protect your friends, family and loved ones by being socially responsible, donning a mask if unwell esp in crowded places, and always practise proper hygiene daily

As we come to the end of the year, and start making plans for overseas travel etc, pls do not hesitate to book an appointment online, or walk in to our clinic branches for your flu shots today!

Influenza, commonly known as the "flu", is a contagious viral disease that can affect anyone, including healthy people. It attacks the respiratory tract in humans (nose, throat, and lungs), causing inflammation of the membranes. Flu symptoms usually come on suddenly, and symptoms include high fever, sore throat, coughing, headache, muscle aches, and stuffy nose

At Kindred Family Clinics, we believe in early recognition, diagnosis and treatment of influenza. By performing a simple and non invasive bedside nasal swab, we aim to detect and diagnose influenza in its initial stages, esp since the treatment of flu with antiviral medication (TAMIFLU) works best when started within the first 48hrs after symptoms begin

It's widely established that flu antiviral drugs can lessen symptoms and shorten the duration of symptoms. Starting antiviral treatment shortly after symptoms begin also can help reduce complications. For adults hospitalized with flu, some studies have reported that early antiviral treatment can reduce the duration of hospitalization and their risk of death

To mitigate transmission, it's imperative that we get our flu vaccination shots annually, and that everyone practises healthy habits, good personal hygiene and be socially responsible!

Doctors have advised the public to maintain proper hand hygiene, wear masks in crowded settings, and get vaccinated at least once a year.

Shingles vaccine (SHINGRIX) helps prevent shingles, caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), which is the same virus that causes chickenpox. It is a 2 dose vaccination regime for life long immunity

The first symptom of shingles is usually pain, which can be intense with even a slightest touch. Other symptoms of shingles include rash, fluid filled blisters, fever, headache, chills etc. A relatively common but debilitating complication of shingles, especially in older adults is "nerve pain", called postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), which can be severe and long-lasting, even after the rash has cleared. Other rare complications include lung infection (pneumonia), brain inflammation (encephalitis), hearing loss or blindness

Early vaccination is therefore recommended in older adults, such as those 50 years of age or older who would benefit from immunity to shingles

Under the latest vaccination subsidy scheme (VSS), Singaporean citizens >=60yo would enjoy subsidies, with out of pocket payments from $38 per dose onwards (T&C applies)

Feel free to contact/whatsapp or drop by our clinic branches to understands more about it tdy!

Currently, meningococcal vaccination is required for Singapore pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for the Haj pilgrimage. All Singapore pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for the Haj pilgrimage also need to be vaccinated for influenza and COVID-19 prior to travel, in addition to meningococcal vaccination

Pilgrims are to ensure that:
1. Meningococcal vaccination: Pilgrims must complete their meningococcal vaccination at least 10 days before departure and provide proof of vaccination

2. COVID-19 vaccination: Pilgrims must show proof of either a single dose of the updated vaccine for the 2025 season, completion of primary vaccination series, or laboratory-confirmed recovery from a COVID-19 infection during the year 2025. And it is still fully subsidised for SG citizens, PRs and visit pass holders in Singapore

3. Influenza vaccination: Pilgrims must receive their influenza vaccination within 12 months before their travel date and provide proof of vaccination. Also, the gvt vacccination subsidy scheme may apply for those individuals deemed to be high risk for influenza infection and complications ie elderly >=65year old, or those with underlying chronic medical conditions ie diabetes, heart and lung diseases (asthma/COPD), liver or kidney impairments etc

At Kindred Family Clinics, we are accredited COVID-19 vaccine providers and will be able to provide the respective vaccinations accordingly to individuals who are travelling

Pls feel free to call or whatsapp our clinic branches for more details if needed!
